Job Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to perform skilled and semi-skilled painting and plastering work to structures and equipment inside and outside of the property. Work will include preparing surfaces for painting and applying paint and finishes to interior and exterior structures, furniture and equipment. Wash, scrape and sand paper surfaces in preparation for painting; putties slight defects in woodwork, patches holes in walls; erects scaffolding; cleans paint brushes, rollers, spray guns and other equipment used in the painting process; spackles new gyproc, construction and sands and finishes same; apply and remove wall cover such as wallpaper and vinyl paper. Setup enclosures as per our Infection Control/Asbestos management protocol. The incumbent understands and applies knowledge of various paint types. This is a physically demanding position, which involves significant standing, walking, bending and lifting.

Lifting objects and equipment weighing 25 to 50 lbs. occurs on a regular basis.
Work involves standing and constantly walking (can include climbing ladders, scaffolds and stairs; bending, kneeling, crawling and stretching; painting walls, baseboards, ceilings and working in confined spaces).
Manual/physical activities include constant fine finger/precision work when painting trim or straight lines; using hand tools such as a sander, grinder, rotary tools and maintaining physical balance when climbing ladders or scaffolds.
Alertness and visual concentration are required when performing repetitive tasks such as mixing paint; climbing ladders and scaffolds; painting and plastering, operating power tools, etc.
Higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness for the health and safety of others is required when working in public areas where dust control, fumes and/or allergies are an issue or when working on ladders and scaffolding in crowded areas.
Interruptions and lack of control over work pace are experienced with competing priorities; changes to job while in progress; adverse weather conditions (if working outside), etc.
Job Qualifications
Successful completion of a Journeyperson's Certificate in Painting/Plastering is required.
Experience as a journeyperson Painter/Plasterer in a commercial or industrial setting would be an asset.
Possession of a class IV driver?s license and satisfactory drivers abstract is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
