Environmental Compliance Manager
Location: Hybrid: Halifax, Nova Scotia / Canso, Nova Scotia

Role Overview
As Environmental Compliance Manager, you will lead the development and implementation of environmental compliance and monitoring programs supporting the development and operation of Spaceport Nova Scotia. Reporting initially to the VP of Spaceport Operations, this role will ensure that spaceport development and launch activities are conducted in compliance with applicable environmental approvals, regulatory requirements, and internal environmental management systems. You will work closely with operations, engineering, regulatory authorities, and environmental consultants to ensure that environmental protection and responsible stewardship remain central to the development of Canada's first commercial spaceport.
Key Responsibilities
- Environmental Compliance and Monitoring
- Oversee environmental compliance activities associated with construction and operational activities at Spaceport Nova Scotia.
- Implement environmental monitoring programs in accordance with environmental approvals and regulatory requirements.
- Apply for, maintain and renew environmental permits.
- Manage environmental reporting, documentation, and compliance records.
- Coordinate environmental training, inspections, audits and site monitoring activities.
- Implement environmental commitments and mitigation measures.
- Regulatory Coordination
- Support compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations and permits and approvals.
- Coordinate with environmental regulators and permitting authorities as required.
- Assist with preparation of environmental submissions, compliance reports, and regulatory documentation.
- Support environmental inputs required for launch licensing and operational approvals.
- Environmental Management and Planning
- Support development and implementation of the company's environmental management framework.
- Work with construction and operations teams to identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Provide guidance to internal teams aligning operational plans with environmental commitments and requirements.
- Support development of environmental procedures and operational best practice.
- Engagement
- Coordinate with environmental consultants, Mi'kmaq First Nations, local stakeholders and community representatives.
- Support communication of environmental monitoring activities and compliance commitments.
- Contribute to maintaining positive relationships with regulators, Mi'kmaq First Nations, and local communities.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, natural resources management, or related field.
- 5-10 years of experience in environmental compliance, environmental monitoring, or regulatory coordination.
- Experience working within regulated infrastructure, energy, aerospace or construction environments.
- Strong understanding of environmental permitting and compliance processes.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience with environmental assessment process and management systems.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, permits and monitoring programs.
- Experience working with provincial and federal environmental regulatory bodies.
- Experience supporting large infrastructure of industrial projects.
- Experience working on projects in rural communities.
Additional Requirements
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required to support launch operations and mission readiness activities.
- Willingness to travel to and from the Spaceport Nova Scotia site and other operational locations as required.
