Purpose
As a key member of the Global Portfolio Solutions Team, you will play a critical role in shaping and driving the investment success of ScotiaMcLeod's and International Investment Advisory's Separately Managed Account (SMA) Programs (Summit and SIP) and Pinnacle Pooled Program. You will lead the evolution of managed investment programs, oversee rigorous performance monitoring and due diligence, and deliver deep investment insights that support portfolio integrity and client value across more than $16 billion in assets.
Is This Role Right for You? In this role, you will:
Lead the Development and Evolution of Managed Programs
• Deliver expertise in designing, enhancing, and leading managed asset programs across Summit, SIP, and Pinnacle.
• Oversee portfolio management activities, including suitability review, investment policy sign off, and ongoing compliance oversight.
• Manage discretionary rebalancing and integrate new mandates where appropriate.
• Conduct re optimization activities aligned with Northern Trust's annual capital market assumptions.
• Provide deep insights into underlying mandates across all programs.
• Participate actively in portfolio advisor due diligence.
• Drive product innovation and strategic direction through analysis of investment merit, risk, and suitability.
Oversee Monitoring and Integrity of SMA and Pooled Products
• Ensure smooth operation and continuous improvement of SMA platforms and the Pinnacle Program.
• Onboard new mandates and managers onto internal systems.
• Draft and maintain investment mandates for all products and advisors.
• Conduct regular performance monitoring for mandate compliance and product integrity.
• Lead portfolio advisor due diligence for onboarding and off boarding decisions.
• Assess competitive positioning across mandate types and offerings.
Deliver Insightful Investment Analysis and Reporting
• Provide key inputs into product development, marketing, communications, and regulatory reporting.
• Review quarterly mandate profiles, commentaries, and selected sales/product materials.
• Produce in depth analysis on SMA portfolios, Pools, and models to support strong investment storytelling and performance transparency.
Manage Key Internal and External Relationships
• Build and maintain strong cross functional partnerships across Scotia Wealth Management, Global Asset Management, Compliance, vendors, consultants, and portfolio advisors.
• Support alignment on program changes, performance updates, and investment decisions.
Contribute to a High Performing Investment Solutions Team
• Foster collaboration and open communication across the team.
• Deliver exceptional internal client service.
• Share knowledge to support team development.
• Participate actively in meetings, ideation, and department initiatives.
• Develop and execute a meaningful personal development plan.
Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
• University degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• CFA designation or equivalent education (asset).
• Minimum 5 years' experience in mutual funds, investment management, or brokerage.
• Strong knowledge of capital markets, portfolio management, securities regulations, and the mutual fund industry.
• Advanced PC skills, including industry tools such as MPower, Bloomberg, Mellon, Zephyr, Morningstar Direct, and MS Excel.
• High comfort with research methods and statistical analysis.
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, high pressure environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proven relationship building skills.
• Registration with CIRO as a Portfolio Manager and/or Supervisor of Managed Accounts.
