This key individual leads the development and implementation of Commercial Lending strategies and provides overall direction to the Commercial Lending Team. They are responsible for optimizing the commercial operation functions for LSM, planning, organizing and directing business development, credit adjudication, collections and relationship management activities and strategies, as well as developing and overseeing new commercial lending, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and vision.
As a people leader, this role provides effective leadership to champion the staff in the delivery of department objectives and customer satisfaction while creating and fostering an effective work environment conducive to successful operations.
With the flexibility of working from home, responsibilities include:
1. Provides overall direction, leadership and strategic management to the LSM Commercial Lending Services functions.
2. The Director, Commercial Lending has oversight responsibility for the commercial lending portfolio, ensuring the Commercial Lending Team follows LSM's account management lending processes and criteria. Plans and communicates to keep stakeholders informed of LSM products and services. Approves, lending related processes (e.g. credit collection, credit review, write-offs, credit approval, etc.). Manages the implementation and execution of the strategies, evaluates portfolio performance and credit risk, monitors new developments, and initiates corrective actions as required.
3. Works with the Director, Treasury and Securitization to ensure LSM balance sheet optimization, including balance sheet funding, asset allocation, and securitization strategies over time, including but not limited to, coordinating financial and credit risk management processes and reporting the analysis and interpretation of margin results and the provision of specific recommendations to Management.
4. Manages a $700M+ Commercial Real Estate Portfolio, including syndicated and securitized loan portfolios, all secured by conventional and insured term and construction loans. Responsible for a team of experienced commercial real estate lenders, analysts, and servicers, providing financing for all commercial real estate asset types. Working closely with VP Operations, the Director will be responsible for growth of the commercial lending portfolio by expanding the portfolio geographically and with new lending partnerships and innovative products. Participates in the development of corporate strategies and the corporate business plans including developing business plans, oversees departmental plans and the annual department budgets. Plays a key leadership role in initiatives to advance corporate strategies.
5. Provides overall direction, leadership and long-term strategic management of LSM's syndicated lending activities, including but not limited to developing and maintain local, regional and national partnerships/relationships with key referral sources and syndicate partners, keeping abreast of industry knowledge and market trends to determine strategic direction and objectives, developing and achieving new business development goals including negotiation on pricing, credit adjudication, relationship management of existing borrowers, developing and implementing strategies and objectives for future growth and efficient administration. Responsible for credit decisioning which will impact local, regional and national strategic partners.
6. In conjunction with the Vice-President Operations & General Manager, LSM and the Director, Treasury & Securitization, manages the Canada Mortgage Bond off balance sheet securitization program including but not limited to setting and achieving operational goals and quarterly/annual allocations.
7. Leads and directs Commercial Business Development for LSM Syndications, pursuing credit opportunities to optimize financial results for LSM and credit unions throughout the Atlantic within the risk framework. Collaborates with Treasury to analyze the impacts to capital and liquidity requirements and alignment with strategies.
8. Develops and maintains strategic relationships with National partners to secure assets to optimize allocations and maximize pricing and profitability in LSM's Canada Mortgage Bond off balance sheet securitization program. Manages the credit adjudication process providing direction and coaching to staff members.
9. Manages delinquency control of all commercial mortgage and syndication loans, including but not limited to, monitoring levels of delinquency on mortgage portfolios, overseeing the collections activities by the Commercial Analyst(s), and providing approval for recommended legal action. Manages all security to safeguard the company and regional and national syndicate partners from undue risks.
The Director, Commercial Lending, will have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a concentration in Business Administration plus have a minimum of 10 years senior management experience and a minimum of 10 years' experience in commercial credit/commercial real estate lending or have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position will be based in our Halifax, NS office, and provides services throughout Atlantic Canada, so therefore offers the flexibility to work remotely.
