JOB PURPOSE

The Respiratory Therapist 4 is responsible for providing therapeutic and diagnostic work utilizing specialized skills for the investigation and treatment of pulmonary and cardiovascular disorders

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed with the New Brunswick Association of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • May be required to provide guidance, training and orientation to other Respiratory Therapist staff, students and other health care professionals.
  • Related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the service.

ASSESSMENT AND TESTING

  • Review patient history, charts, and tests.
  • Perform cardio-respiratory and safety assessments.
  • Assess medication administration techniques and effectiveness.
  • Perform preliminary diagnostic procedures (invasive and non-invasive) and specific pulmonary function tests (PFT).
  • Provide diagnostic test results to physicians.

TREATMENT

  • Evaluate patient response and administer adjunctive therapies during PFT testing (Ex. Dose inhalers, oxygen, etc.), as needed.

EDUCATION

  • Provide education to patients.
  • May recommend referral to a respiratory clinic or other healthcare services.
  • Deliver education sessions to various healthcare professionals/providers and students.
