JOB PURPOSE

Provision of Nursing care to meet the patient's individual needs by utilizing the nursing process.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently registered with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB)
• Current surgical nursing (Ortho, Urology, General Surgery, ENT, Plastics, Gyne) experience
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of MSK and GU anatomy and physiology, postop assessments, postop complications
• Current IV Therapy and Venipuncture experience
• Current BLS certification
• Knowledge of wound care management (NPWT, PI prevention)
• Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully
• Ability to attend work on a regular basis
• Ability to perform the physical duties of the position
• Good work record

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Identifies patient needs and problems utilizing a variety of assessment tools
• Identifies needs effecting discharge planning and potential services required at home
• Provides pre/postop teaching, counselling, and health promotion
• Provides nursing care required to achieve positive patient outcomes
• Evaluates outcomes of nursing actions for further assessment and planning.
• Utilizes effective communication skills to achieve therapeutic relationship
• Supports new employees during orientation
• Directs and supervises non-clinical staff
• Demonstrates initiative in personal professional development and continuing education
• Participates in programs and research promoting quality improvement on the nursing unit
