About the organization:

We are creating a transformative Community Centre that responds to the evolving needs of our residents and surrounding areas. Designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and accessible, the Centre will serve as a hub for connection, services, and community life.

The Centre will feature a climate-resilient, zero-carbon design that incorporates renewable energy systems. This approach will reduce long-term operating costs while demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship.

The Centre will serve residents of Oxford and the surrounding communities across Cumberland County, including a growing population of newcomers. It will strengthen social connections, support community well-being, and provide a shared space for programs, services, and events.

The Position:

Reporting directly to the Manager of the Community Centre, the Maintenance employee is responsible for ensuring that the interior and exterior of the Oxford and Area Community Centre are safe, functional, and efficiently maintained. This role oversees maintenance, cleaning, security, and utilities, and supports the completion of basic maintenance repairs. The Maintenance employee coordinates repairs with Centre staff and external contractors and is responsible for ensuring emergency preparedness for the physical workplace.

Key Skills & Qualities:

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of facilities operations and building maintenance, with the ability to perform basic repairs and coordinate services related to cleaning, security, and utilities. They will demonstrate a solid understanding of health and safety standards, emergency preparedness, and workplace regulations, and be able to respond effectively to urgent or unexpected issues. Strong organizational and time-management skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities. The Maintenance employee will communicate clearly and professionally with Centre staff, management, contractors, and service providers, and work both independently and collaboratively as required. Attention to detail, reliability, problem-solving ability, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming community environment are key qualities for this role.

Education & Experience Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and practical experience related to general maintenance, building maintenance, or a similar field. Completion of a post-secondary diploma or certificate in Maintenance, building systems, trades, or a related discipline is considered an asset, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate should have several years of hands-on experience in building maintenance, with demonstrated experience coordinating contractors and service providers. Experience working in a community centre, recreational facility, or public-facing environment is considered an asset, as is any relevant safety or trade certification.

Successful candidates will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check in accordance with Community Centre policies.

Competitive wages will be commensurate based on education and experience.
