About the Role:

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, the Project Accountant balances two main responsibilities: coordinating with selected proponents and our internal finance team to provide and verify key financial details and ensuring that project financial reports are both timely and accurate. This role strives to make sure all project costs are properly understood, documented, compliant, approved, and recorded. Success requires bringing together critical thinking, precision, quality work, and a sense of urgency. You'll engage with new markets, programs, and processes, sometimes improving them for better client service and accuracy. Role and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out comprehensive reviews of project claims; confirm cost details with proponents and request further information as needed.
  • Examine, verify, process, and approve all project-related claims.
  • Serve as the main liaison for project proponents by guiding them through procedures and addressing their questions.
  • Maintain detailed records of claim reviews, including documentation verification, communications with proponents, justifications for any testing or sampling, and more.
  • Deliver routine updates on project progress to important stakeholders.
  • Assist with financial analysis pertaining to key project performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Help compile regular forecasts of upcoming project costs.
  • Provide frequent status reports, ensure prompt processing of all claims, and support the Director of Finance in overseeing the claims review process.
  • Participate in preparing necessary reports for OSC funding partners.
  • Aid the finance team with internal audit files and participate in special projects as needed.
  • Record all claim details accurately-both electronically and in reports-to inform other OSC team members as required.
  • Actively seek and contribute to enhancements or changes in OSC systems that affect project reporting.
  • Help the finance team update and refine documentation, such as guides and manuals related to project claims or eligible costs.

What you Bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, or Diploma
  • 1-2 years of experience in accounts payable
  • Audit or claim review experience considered an asset
  • Experience inside a firm and / or a client facing industry is critical
  • Experience working within the blue economy considered an asset
  • In depth understanding and prior experience with the Blue Economy is a plus

  • High level of critical thinking skills
  • Bi-lingual (French and English) is considered an asset
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Comfortable working and collaborating both virtually and remotely with others
  • Detail-oriented coupled with proven sense of urgency to get things done well and on time
  • Generates enthusiasm, excitement and engagement with their surrounding team
