WorkSafeNB is looking to hire a permanent full-time Bilingual written and spoken Health and Safety Consultant. This position is to support the Southeastern part of New Brunswick.

Reporting to the Manager, Consultation Services, the Health and Safety Consultant is an important catalyst for improving the health and safety culture in the province. They provide specialized services, including consulting, educating, auditing, and technical expertise, to employers with the objective of keeping New Brunswickers healthy and safe at work. They lead a proactive team approach with all levels of leadership in workplaces to improve health and safety programs leading to enhanced safety culture, fewer hazards, and a reduction in claims and reportable incidents.

Salary And Hours Of Work:

  • Hours of work are those required to perform the assigned tasks but shall not be less than 35 hours per week, 7 per day. Organization hours are Monday to Friday between 8:00-5:00 PM. This role may require you to work outside of these hours based on operational needs.
  • The pay scale for this position is $82,971.90 to $97,614.00 annually.
Responsibilities
  • Promote awareness of health and safety and support understanding of the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its regulations.
  • Provide consultation services to employers, including evaluating existing practices and assisting in the development and enhancement of workplace health and safety programs.
  • Support employers in establishing or improving the effectiveness of their Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC).
  • Support the approval process for external training providers seeking authorization to deliver New Brunswick's JHSC education program.
  • Contribute to other prevention?related processes and support the continuous improvement of services offered by the Prevention Division.
  • Represent WorkSafeNB internally and externally through collaboration, committee participation, and presentations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) years of work experience in the Health and Safety field which includes business consulting, project management and facilitation.
  • Knowledge and experience in application of adult learning principles and practices is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate a sound knowledge of health and safety issues and principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant employment standards, human rights and privacy acts.
  • Basic understanding of Health and Safety legislation and best practices.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector entities such as Government of New Brunswick.
  • MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point).
  • Experience with virtual meeting platforms.
  • Disability management knowledge or experience is an asset.
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or CHSC (Certified Health and Safety Consultant) certification is considered an asset.
  • Certification in the psychological health and safety or mental health field such as Psychological Health and Safety (PH&S) Advisors certified by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) or Certified Mental Health First Aid Canada Basic Course Instructor is an asset.

Written and spoken competence in English and in French is required.

A valid driver's license and the ability to travel within the province, will be required for on-site work with employers. Travel expenses are reimbursed as per our expense directive.

WorkSafeNB administers no-fault workplace accident and disability insurance for employers and their workers, funded solely through assessments on employers. All employers having three or more workers are obligated to obtain compensation coverage.

WorkSafeNB is committed to preventing workplace injuries and illness through education and enforcement of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

WorkSafeNB is administered by a board of directors consisting of the chairperson, a vice-chairperson, the president and CEO (non-voting member), the chairperson of the Appeals Tribunal (non-voting member), five members representing workers, and five members representing employers. Other than the president & CEO and the chairperson of the Appeals Tribunal, members of the board of directors serve part-time.

  • Provide sustainable insurance and insurance-related services to the employer community.
  • Represent stakeholders and provide recommendations and advice to government with respect to legislation, and publish such reports, studies, and recommendations WorkSafeNB considers advisable.

Assessments are affected by the level of activities in the province's workplaces, as are the resulting claims. There are also substantial assets that ensure WorkSafeNB will be able to provide the ongoing benefits promised to injured workers through a wage loss recovery insurance system. These funds are invested in the financial markets and investment returns are subject to the ups and downs of the marketplace.
