The Role

The Clean Community Coordinator plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, vibrant, and safe downtown community. They oversee various responsibilities, including proactive cleanliness efforts, maintenance, assisting with event setup, supporting marketing activities, and identifying opportunities for beautification and visual enhancements. The coordinator takes proactive measures to address issues while remaining adaptable and community minded. This position is ideal for a committed individual eager to contribute to the continuous enhancement and promotion of downtown Fredericton.

Responsibilities

As the Clean Community Coordinator, you will be expected to:

  • Proactively identify and lead the removal of graffiti, refuse and debris from the BIA
  • Initiate vibrancy projects including but not limited to greenery, landscaping, lighting, and other beautification measures
  • Support the maintenance of street banners, flyers, and other marketing & promotional material
  • Identify streetscape and maintenance issues and opportunities for improvement
  • Support event set-up and tear-down
  • Champion a culture of excellence in maintaining a clean and vibrant built environment
  • Other duties as may be assigned by management.

Skills

Desired skills and attributes of the successful candidate include (but are not limited to):

  • General knowledge of maintenance methods
  • General knowledge of carpentry and repair
  • Proficiency in using common hand and electrical/ power tools, with a strong understanding of their applications and safety protocols

Physical Requirements

This position requires the successful candidate to work in an outdoor environment and to have the physical ability to perform the role, including:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Daily outdoor work in all weather types (heat, rain, cold)
  • Frequent walking covering long distances
  • Standing for long periods
  • Comfortable working at heights and climbing ladders
  • May be required to move heavy furniture, equipment and supplies
  • Frequent standing, pushing, pulling and reaching

Employment Period, Hours, and Compensation

DFI is proud to offer an engaging, welcoming, and impactful work environment that is focused on the advancement and enhancement of our downtown community.

  • Employment period: March 23rd, 2026 (or as available), to October 2nd, 2026. Possibility for extension.
  • Hours: 8:00am to 4:00pm. 1 (unpaid) hour for lunch. Approximately 35 hours per week. Weekend and some evening work will be required.
  • Wages: $17.50 per hour.
