The Planning & Development (P&D) department is accepting applications for an 8-week GIS student placement during the 2026 spring work term period.

Job tasks include:

  • Mapping and analysis in support of the 2026 Community Plan Review such as:
    • Updating flood zone mapping
    • Identification of agricultural lands
    • Mapping urban heat islands
  • Developing and updating Web Apps and/or Dashboards in ArcGIS Online
  • Reviewing, updating, and inventorying the Municipality's spatial data.
  • Other projects as determined by the individual's skillset.

The work will be varied and will provide solid experience as a GIS Technician in a busy municipal planning department.

This position may be a hybrid of remote and in-person work at our Elmsdale office, with some field work required and access to reliable transportation required, mileage to be reimbursed as per policy.

The preferred candidate will be well versed in ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online/Portal, and spatial database management. Proficiency in Python, Arcade, QGIS, and graphic design would be considered assets.

Hourly Rate: $20 p/hour

Hours: 35 hours p/week, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm for an 8 week term
