Revenue/Cost Analyst

Job Summary

The Revenue/Cost Analyst is responsible for ensuring accurate revenue recognition, cost management, and profitability analysis for billable services. This role establishes processes and controls for time tracking, reconciles billable hours with payments, and provides actionable insights through management reporting. The position works cross-functionally with Finance, Sales, Operations and HR to ensure alignment and integration of systems and processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Revenue Recognition & Profitability
    • Ensure accurate recognition of revenue for billable hours.
    • Monitor and report on profitability by project, client, and service line.
  • Time Tracking & Reconciliation
    • Oversee accurate time tracking for employees and contractors.
    • Reconcile billable hours to contractor/employee payments and client invoicing.
  • Process & Control Development
    • Design and implement processes, systems, and internal controls for revenue and cost management.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and financial standards.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Partner with Finance, HR, Sales, and Operations to integrate workflows and systems.
    • Support pricing strategies and cost optimization initiatives.
  • Management Reporting & Analysis
    • Deliver regular reports and dashboards on:
      • Cost per hour per service
      • Budget vs. actual performance
      • Throughput and utilization metrics
    • Provide insights to support decision-making and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration (CPA or CMA designation preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in revenue accounting, cost management, or project accounting in a service-based industry.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with process management, financial controls and reconciliation, job costing, time tracking systems, and revenue recognition principles and models.
  • Proficiency in financial systems (ERP), Excel, Quickbooks, and reporting tools.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
