Working as part of a dynamic and dedicated team, the Commercial Analyst provides comprehensive support and maintenance for the commercial loan portfolio, contributes to business development initiatives, and conducts thorough due diligence and financial analysis on complex loan applications. The role also supports the evaluation of potential Canada Mortgage Bond transactions and proactively identifies business opportunities to enhance and grow relationships within existing loan portfolio.
1.Performs the following support functions in the management of Atlantic Central's (AC) syndicated loans and League Savings & Mortgage's (LSM) commercial loan portfolios, including:
- Preparing annual reviews on all commercial accounts including conducting credit investigations
- Analyzing financial statements, ensuring loans are in compliance with CMHC special conditions, carrying out site inspections, pricing reviews, updating risk ratings and recommending required actions.
- Handling client inquiries, preparing changes to loan terms and conditions, negotiating loan renewal interest rates, and other account management situations.
2.Performs portfolio maintenance functions including:
- Monitoring the portfolio for missed payments, taking all measures necessary to correct default payments.
- Working with the borrower to consider debt restructuring, seeking credit approval and preparing any loan amendment documents.
- Performing collections activities in relation to commercial accounts and the foreclosure and sale of commercial properties as required.
3.Performs commercial lending business development support activities, including but not limited to:
- Contacting existing clients and acting on identified potential lending and/or deposit business opportunities.
- Acting as backup to the Commercial Relationship Managers on sourcing new business from AC and LSM partners, borrowers and other stakeholders including direct, credit union, and other referral sources (e.g. brokers, accountants, etc.).
4.Conducts appropriate due diligence and analysis to determine the strength of complex loan applications including, but not limited to:
- Interviewing applicants, mortgage brokers or clients to identify financial needs; negotiating the terms and conditions (e.g., rates, security, fees, etc.); structuring proposals and developing Term Sheets for submission to the applicant.
- Conducting comprehensive analysis of the applicants' financial statements, cash flow, business performance history, profitability and personal net worth of shareholders.
- Conducting market research on the borrower and industry trends and conducting security assessments to determine acceptability.
- Preparing detailed credit applications ensuring compliance with the company's commercial lending policies and guidelines for presentation to the appropriate credit authority.
- Completes applications for CMHC Certificate of Insurance.
As the ideal candidate you will have successfully completed will have successfully completed a Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Finance or a related discipline plus have a minimum of 5 years Commercial Lending experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
COMPENSATION:
This is a permanent full-time position and is rated a Salary Level P3 with a salary range $80,322- $94,497. LSM offers a competitive benefits package as well as the opportunity to participate in the Performance Sharing Incentive Plan.
LOCATION:
This position will be based in our Halifax, NS office, and provides services throughout Atlantic Canada, therefore offers the ability to work remotely as required.
TRAVEL, EVENING AND WEEKEND WORK:
This position requires occasional travel, sometimes overnight, through Atlantic Canada and occasional evening and weekend work.
