Our Opportunity

The Berwick Electric Commission (BEC) is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Electric Services (Superintendent) to lead the operation, maintenance, and long-term planning of the Town's electrical distribution and generation systems. What we're looking for:

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Eligible for or registered as EIT or P.Eng with Engineers Nova Scotia an asset

Experience:

  • 8-10 years of progressive experience in electrical utility operations, engineering, or leadership.
  • Experience with distribution system design, construction, maintenance, and outage management.
  • Leadership experience, ideally in a unionized environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong technical knowledge of distribution systems, substations, and protection schemes.
  • Proficiency with SCADA, GIS, CYME, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong financial acumen and project management skills.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time, permanent position (Monday-Friday), with some after-hours requirements for storm and outage response.
  • Combination of office work, field supervision, and outdoor activity in varied weather conditions.
  • Frequent interaction with the CAO, Commission, Town Council, staff, contractors, and customers.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license.
  • Satisfactory criminal record check.
  • Ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and on construction sites.
