What is the opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Financial Control role is a pivotal strategic and enablement function that serves as the Bank's 'second line of defense'. As a key member of the Personal Banking Financial Control team, the senior manager will provide proper accounting advisory for new products and initiatives, implement effective processes, and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial information captured in RBC's results. The role has a primary focus on Cards and Loyalty, Distribution, and Operations lines of business.

What you will do?

  • Accounting Advisory – assessing the accounting implications of new initiatives to enable business partners to make the best decisions. Implement new accounting policies in consultation with the Accounting Policy Group.

  • Financial Reporting – review quarterly financial disclosures and related variance analysis. Investigate financial results abnormalities

  • Establishing the financial infrastructure for Personal Banking products - Assessing financial risk and establish proper infrastructure & processes to ensure financial results are reported completely and accurately and risks are adequately managed

  • Monitoring the Financial Control environment -pPerform review of Standard of Documentation (SOD) and follow-up on queries to ensure timely resolution. Perform and update SOX controls.

  • Data strategy and other projects – lead a number of data strategy projects and ad hoc initiatives to enhance the transparency and accuracy of the data utilized for financial reporting and business analysis

  • Process Transformation – identify opportunities to automate & streamline processes and assist business with process implementation

  • Participate in ad-hoc projects as directed including accounting policy implementation, rectifying SOX deficiencies, etc.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • CPA or equivalent. Success in this role is highly dependent on skills commonly associated with accounting designations

  • 6+ years progressive experience, ideally within financial institutions or accounting firms

  • Strong IFRS working knowledge

  • Knowledge of retail banking products or willingness and interest in developing that knowledge

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Able to collaborate and obtain buy-ins from multiple stakeholders

  • Strong financial and analytical skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet with multiple deliverables within a tight timeline

  • Excellent Excel skills and presentation skills

Nice-to-have

  • Strong knowledge of the RBC financial systems
