JOB PURPOSE
Provide nursing care for patients while in the Department of Medical Imaging. Assist the Radiologist/clinician prior to, during and after procedures performed in the Interventional Radiology department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide total nursing care for patients while in the Medical Imaging Department
- Respond to emergency situations and rapidly changing priorities
- Administer medications and/or sedation as ordered by the medical staff/radiologist, in accordance with standard nursing procedures.
- Maintain an accurate record of medications administered and the treatment/procedure performed.
- Communicate with nursing units regarding the nursing needs of the patient.
- Evaluate readiness of patients for discharge from the Medical Imaging Department, assist with discharges requiring special care or arrangements
- Monitor the patients' responses to procedures and react accordingly.
- Prioritizes and delivers complex patient care
- Completes annual advanced nursing competencies related to critical care
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding all aspects of work
- Demonstrate a professional manner in the work setting
- Develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships with the staff and good public relations with patients and their families.
- Maintain and operate intravenous infusions, infusion devices, monitors and other
QUALIFICATIONS
- Nurse – registered in the Province of New Brunswick.
- Current ACLS certification – Recertification required.
- Minimum 2 years Critical Care experience in an adult surgical or medical ICU or ER environment within the last 5 years.
- Current certification in Venipuncture and administration of IV medications
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, other staff and the general public.
- Initiative and good judgement in emergency and crisis situations.
- High regard for confidentiality and advocacy for patients.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuing education and willing to participate in ongoing education to upgrade knowledge and skills.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position with no impediment to working wearing a lead apron for prolonged periods.
- Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
