What will you do?
We want every point of contact with our RBC Wealth Management clients to feel important to them. That's where you come in. The Senior Digital Interaction Designer provides advice and guidance to stakeholders and team members on interaction design. The role creates complex artifacts and leads simple projects to define interaction with RBCs products and services.
The Senior Digital Interaction Designer is an individual contributor who expands their Interaction Design skills to include other disciplines and business practices. They articulate domain knowledge that differentiate solutions, influencing decision-making for complex problems that drive project and business outcomes. This role merges user and business needs through metrics analysis and testing outcomes, guiding projects with empathy and working independently while supporting others.
What you would work on
Interaction Design Strategy 20%
- Provides strategic guidance on Interaction Design strategy, offering advice and recommendations to cross-functional teams to inform product design and ensure craft excellence, consistency, and alignment with Design systems and product guidelines.
- Advocates for client needs and influences product strategy by applying a deep understanding of Interaction Design theory, strategies, and best practices to create user-centered design solutions, facilitate workshops and ideation sessions, and evaluate outcomes against business goals and objectives.
Artifact Creation 60%
- Works independently to plan and coordinate Interaction Design projects of medium complexity, estimating timelines and managing activities.
- Creates medium-fidelity design artifacts, such as sketches, wireframes, and prototypes, to explore and communicate complex system designs and client experiences with minimal supervision.
- Takes ownership of developing and refining non-textual content, ensuring consistency and accessibility across all digital media, and makes recommendations for improvement
- Presents Interaction Design work to stakeholders, ensuring design standards and accessibility principles are met, and contributes to the development of consistent client experiences that align with RBC's brand value proposition, all while maintaining a high level of independence and self-directed work.
Research and Testing 20%
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including Design Researchers and Product stakeholders, to inform design decisions through research discussions, user testing, and data analysis.
- Develops and refines Interaction Design solutions by co-creating user flows and prototypes, researching competitive trends, and performing audits to identify opportunities for improvement and make data-driven design recommendations.

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- BA/BS degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field or equivalent practical experience
- Portfolio that includes application design samples
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in designing usable interfaces across multiple channels and platforms
- Experience in an applied research setting including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices
- Demonstrated ability to articulate design strategy, rational and logic; describing benefits and highlighting risks associated with design decisions
- Demonstrated expertise with design, prototyping, and research tools such as Figma, Mural, UserTesting.com
Nice to have
- MA/MS degree or certification in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science (CS), or a related field
- Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase
- Appreciation for the potential of 'design thinking'
- Experience working within a large organization and within an agile environment
