Job Description
What is the opportunity?
As Senior Manager, Tax Advisory Group, you will, together with other tax professionals in the RBC Taxation group, play a critical role in the prudent management of RBC's tax position by providing Canadian income tax policy direction and technical tax support to RBC business lines and functional partners.
Your responsibilities will include delivering value-added tax advice to key stakeholders in relation to the products and services offered by RBC in Canada to its clients. You will advise on the income tax consequences, to both RBC and its clients, of the products and services offered, and the advice will range from Canadian domestic through to any applicable cross-border implications, including withholding tax and tax treaties. In addition, you will be a key member of the team advising on the tax considerations relevant to any new business and product initiatives proposed by RBC in Canada.
What you will do?
Respond to tax-related queries from business and functional partners regarding clients, products, and services on a timely basis to enable continued delivery of best-in-class client service
Research and analyze complex and specialized tax issues to deliver practical, real-world solutions in respect of product issues and client transactions
Strengthen the awareness and knowledge of business and functional partners regarding tax matters by proactively identifying relevant issues and topics requiring training and development
Participate in the organization, development and/or delivery of internal training programs, contribute to tax sections of policy and procedure manuals, and develop and maintain tax reference material
Monitor new Canadian income tax legislation (and other relevant foreign tax legislation, as required) for changes potentially impacting RBC's business lines and communicate such impacts accordingly within the organization
Advocate on behalf of RBC to government officials regarding relevant tax topics, both directly and through participation in various industry associations
Author articles and reference material for publication through internal newsletters and websites
What you need to succeed?
Must-have
Professional designation (CPA or LLB/JD)
Completion of CICA In-Depth Tax Course
5+ years professional or industry experience in personal, trust and corporate taxation, including personal financial planning
Knowledge of and experience with specialized tax issues relevant to such things as registered plans, estates, personal and specialty trusts, investment funds, securities brokerage and global custodial services
Broad knowledge of financial institutions, personal and corporate trust business and operations
Excellent writing, oral presentation and tax research skills
Ability to communicate complex tax matters in an easily understood manner to non-tax professionals
Nice-to-have
CFP designation
Fluent in French
