The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist, Geologist (Mineral Resources) to join our CTO Mining and Geotech team in Mississauga.
This is a permanent hybrid position in Mississauga with flexibility for domestic and international travel up to 10% and increasing in subsequent years.
As a Senior Specialist, Geologist you will contribute to the validation of Vale Base Metal's mineral resources and mineral reserve estimates ensuring compliance with corporate guidelines and standards and Industry Guide 7 of the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States. You will participate annually in the compilation of the mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates for reporting in the Vale's Annual Report and 20F filing document, develop and maintain mineral resource and mineral reserve guidelines and standards and carry out regular reviews of mineral resource estimates and methods at all operations. Your experience and skills will allow you to provide technical support upon request and contribute to the continuous improvement of resource modelling and mineral resource processes.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Identify MRMR issues and risks at operations and work with exploration, project and operations geology and engineering teams, to prioritize and provide technical support to systematically resolve them.
- Provide guidance and training to the operations and project teams on resource modeling, estimation and reporting to ensure best estimates are used for earnings determination, including development of new processes to improve confidence in the estimates by area or depletion calculations.
Assists in the governance process for the estimation, reporting and disclosure of Vale Base Metals mineral resources and reserves.
- Provide input into the corporate MRMR estimation and reporting standards and guidelines in compliance with best business practices, legal requirements and Vale's corporate requirements.
- Assists in the compilation, updates and communication of the Vale Base Metals consolidated mineral inventory, mineral resource and mineral reserve estimates, risks and opportunities.
- Assists in maintaining certain Vale Base Metals resource management technical guidelines including MRMR estimation and classification, mining cut off, production reconciliation, QA/QC, block modeling etc.
About You
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline is required
- P.Geo. is required to act as a Qualified Person (QP) for mineral resources and mineral reserves reporting
Experience:
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in Mining Geology and Production
Skills:
- Experience in mineral resource and mineral reserve estimation and reporting including experience in resource modeling of laterite and sulphide Ni deposits
- Strong functional knowledge and experience in geology, geostatistics; mineral resource and mineral reserve estimation and reporting
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements (S-K 1300) for mineral reserves and resources disclosure
- Technical expertise in 3D geological modeling applications (Seequent Leapfrog GEO, Leapfrog EDGE, Datamine Studio RM, Isatis, etc.)
- Familiarity with Python scripting to enhance geological data processing or modelling workflows is considered an asset
- People focused (influencing others, building and maintaining relationships)
- Strong communication skills, self-starter, organized and motivated
