ASSOCIATED ALUMNI OFFICE

The Associated Alumni Office works on behalf of both the university and the independently incorporated UNB Associated Alumni to engage more than 100,000 alumni living around the world in the life and success of UNB. Our work is guided by the Alumni Engagement Strategy and is aligned with UNB's strategic vision. We proudly tell the story of our university and alumni; celebrate university, student and alumni milestones and achievements; foster a culture of connection and contribution among students and alumni; and develop programs to deepen relationships with alumni. We support the governance function of the association, plan and support 100+ events annually, publish communications across multiple platforms, and offer services, benefits and engagement opportunities for alumni.

Salary Range: $59,696 - $81,360 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Associate Director, Alumni Communications, this position writes stories, profiles, speeches and event-related content that celebrate the achievements of UNB graduates around the world. The work helps strengthen the connection between alumni and the university; builds awareness and pride; and supports major events, programs and engagement initiatives.

  • Develop story concepts that align with strategic alumni engagement goals and highlight diverse voices and experiences representative of our 100,000+ alumni around the world.
  • Research alumni achievements and gather information through interviews, calls, archives and online sources.
  • Build relationships with alumni to understand their stories and experiences.
  • Help identify strong storytelling opportunities and pitch ideas for features.
  • Produce compelling alumni profiles, feature stories, and short articles.
  • Adapt stories for multiple formats including long-form articles, short features, video scripts, and social media posts.
  • Tailor stories for targeted segments of the alumni audience and for a wide range of purposes to maximize strategic impact in building awareness and pride.
  • Collaborate with the alumni office team and colleagues across the university to create content that supports campaigns and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare alumni biographies and award citations.
  • Develop clear, engaging content for print, digital channels and social media.
  • Create written materials that support and enhance events, including ceremonies, celebrations, recognition programs and reunions.
  • Work closely with the alumni events and outreach team to ensure all written material aligns with tone, purpose and audience.
  • Write speeches, scripts and talking points for events.
  • Work with alumni communications colleagues on content planning, editorial calendars and key messaging.
  • Ensure all content reflects UNB's brand, values and plain-language standards, supports the Associated Alumni engagement strategy, and aligns with UNB's strategic vision.
  • Support the production of Alumni News magazine and other key communications as needed.
  • As a member of a deeply collaborative, cross-functional, high-performance team, this role is expected to actively participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and internal communication activities as we work toward engaging as many of our alumni around the world as possible in the life and success of UNB.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • University degree. Preference will be given to UNB degree holders.
  • 5+ years experience in journalism, creative writing, or content creation, ideally with a portfolio of human-interest or profile pieces.

Additional Strengths

  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • A deep appreciation for storytelling as a tool for connection and community building, with experience crafting stories, profiles and speeches.
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging content.
  • Comfortable interviewing people, capturing their voice and experiences, and the ability to draw out meaningful, authentic stories.
