Role Summary
HHB is seeking a driven Project Manager to lead and deliver capital and operational projects across its infrastructure and facilities portfolio. This role provides expert project management support to the Engineering and Maintenance teams, working closely with a broad range of internal and external partners. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, sound judgement, and a commitment to safety, efficiency, and exceptional client service. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing growth of HHB's Maintenance and Technical teams while further developing professional and leadership capabilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage multiple concurrent infrastructure and facilities projects, providing day-to-day project management coordination and support and resources to Engineering and Maintenance teams.
- Conduct constructability reviews and collaborate on estimates, tendering, bid evaluation, scope development, and contract awards during preconstruction.
- Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope and budget.
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation and controls across all phases, including initiation, design, procurement, monitoring, reporting, and closeout procedures.
- Monitor design and construction quality to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, execution plans, and quality control standards and provide interpretations and recommendations.
- Coordinate field activities and construction sequencing, identifying risk, resolving technical issues, and supporting safe and effective site operations.
- Review and administer contract processed, including RFI's, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, progress billings, and critical systems documentation.
- Attend and actively participate in regular project meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and provide timely updates and reports to stakeholders.
- Foster and maintain effective communication and working relationships with HHB staff, consultants, contractors, clients, and corporate stakeholders on topics important to the construction industry and impacts to projects.
- Demonstrate leadership and adherence to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards on assigned projects through inspection, audits, review of contractor safety plans, and follow-up on incidents and non-conformance.
- Lead the commissioning, start-up, turnover activities, and coordination/liaison with local utilities to ensure infrastructure and facilities are operationally ready.
- Support team effectiveness by mentoring project staff, coordinating resources, and contributing to training, performance discussions, and professional development.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of post-secondary education in a relevant field such as engineering, construction management, project management, architecture, or business program.
- PMP Certification is considered an asset.
- Minimum 8 years of experience as Owner's Representative with project management and/or construction management experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of basic construction law, application of building codes and the coordination of structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and civil drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines following project management best practices.
- Able to lead and work collaboratively across multiple cross-functional teams, serving as a role model and mentor.
- Strong financial knowledge and understanding of capital budgets, construction costs, including the cost of labour and resources.
- Technically proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Project, etc.).
Physical Requirements:
- Walk, stand, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach on uneven surfaces, bridge decks, and temporary works.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment (up to 25-35 lbs).
- Use tools with manual dexterity and sit for computer-based tasks such as planning, scheduling, and reporting.
- Maintain vision and hearing for conversations, alarms, radio use, and reading drawings/specs.
- Safely operate a vehicle between offices and bridge sites.
Working Conditions:
This safety-sensitive role combines office work (planning, documentation, meetings) with field work (inspections, contractor coordination). Field work may involve extreme heights (170-320 feet), confined spaces, variable weather, high noise, vibration, dust, fumes, lead (with respirators), and flammable materials. The position may involve mental stress from conflicting demands and safety-critical tasks, requiring focus, quick decision-making, and strong communication. Strict adherence to safety protocols and the use of PPE are always required.
About the position:
This is a Full-time, Permanent, Non-Union position. The hours of work are 35 hours per week; however, the role does require occasional extended hours. The comprehensive compensation package includes health, dental benefits, insurance coverage and a defined benefit pension plan.
Annual Salary:
The annual compensation for this role is $90,000.00
