ABOUT CENTRAL ZONE
Central Zone is the second largest health zone in Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, serving approximately 90,000 people (17 per cent of the province?s population) living in 176 communities. With a geographical area encompassing more than half the total land mass of the island, the Central region extends from Charlottetown in the east, Fogo Island in the north, Harbour Breton in the south, to Baie Verte in the west. Central Zone provides a variety of primary, secondary, long-term care, community health, and other enhanced secondary services.
James Paton Memorial Hospital (JPMRHC) is seeking a part-time Orthopedic Surgeon to join a collegial and well-established orthopedic service providing comprehensive care to the population of Central Newfoundland. This position offers a broad clinical scope, meaningful professional autonomy, and opportunities for service development within a supportive regional hospital environment.
JPMRHC is a regional referral center serving Central Newfoundland, offering orthopedic surgeons a broad, high-impact practice with strong institutional support and opportunities for leadership and service development.
Surgeons benefit from a well-balanced elective and trauma practice, good access to operating room time, diagnostics, and allied health services, and a collegial, surgeon-led environment with the ability to help shape clinical pathways and future program growth. The Orthopedic Department has identified interest in exploring the introduction of robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery, subject to institutional planning and approval, providing motivated surgeons the opportunity to participate in innovation and program evolution.
Gander offers an excellent quality of life with short commutes, affordable housing, and strong schools, alongside year-round access to Newfoundland and Labrador?s outdoor lifestyle.
