JOB PURPOSE

This is clinical and technical work responsible for assisting in the monitoring and maintaining of Point of Care Testing (POCT) in a zone/area. Work involves training non-laboratory staff and supporting the evaluation and implementation of new POCT equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Holds a practicing (non-temporary) license and in good standing with the New Brunswick Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Good work record.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Medical Laboratory Technologist 2 is responsible for:

  • Collecting specimens
  • Performing routine and specialized procedures
  • Validating and reporting test results
  • Operating, troubleshooting and doing preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Monitor quality control of instruments and tests.
  • Assist with managing Proficiency Control
  • Performing quality control and participating in quality improvement activities
  • Providing guidance, training and orientation
  • Ensure competency of operators and adherence to procedures
  • Confirm operator certification and recertification
  • Evaluate, validate, and troubleshoot instruments, methods, and products
  • Monitor and replenish bench inventory and supplies.
  • Communicate with vendors
