The Marina and Grounds Attendant is part of the operations team and the face of Build Nova Scotia on the ground, providing information to visitors and works to enhance property presentation and cleanliness. They are accountable for the daily operation of our marine services program and assisting with special events. This position works to ensure all visitors enjoy a world-class waterfront experience each time they visit.

This role will help support the day-to-day operations of the wharves and floating docks managed by Build Nova Scotia. It also requires various tasks related to property cleanliness and maintenance and support for special events and other functions of the waterfront.

As front-line staff representing Build Nova Scotia, this position requires an individual with excellent customer service skills, an engaging personality, self-initiative and willingness to perform hands-on tasks ensuring marina and property cleanliness. Responsibilities will include the collection of litter and debris as well as the servicing and maintenance of waste receptacles. This position is also responsible for landscaping, which includes grass mowing, line trimming and various property improvement tasks. Attendants may be engaged in painting, minor maintenance, pressure washing, and other duties as needed.

Responsibilities

Marina Attendant Customer Service/Public Relations Duties:

Attendants are often the first point of contact for visitors to the waterfront by land and sea. As such, the position is responsible for:

Communicating effectively with visitors, responding to questions, proactively promoting events, attractions and activities

Providing an enthusiastic, friendly information resource on the waterfront

Providing the Build Nova Scotia Marketing & Communications team with potential photos/content for social media, web site etc.

Capture photography and video content of waterfront for use on social media (basic cellular device camera) if directed by the Marketing & Communications team

Conduct satisfaction surveys for data collection throughout the season (2 hours, 2-3 times per week)

Assist with event hosting/sponsorship activations as required

Marine Services Program Duties:

Acting as liaison between the Marine Manager and visiting vessels as well as Marina tenants

Handling daily public interface between visiting vessels and the Marina Office including bookings, free daytime berthing program registration, vessel dockside reception, fee collections and provision of information to visitors of waterfront; amenities. Comfortable and professional in fielding inquires by phone, email, and VHF radio and responsible to sufficiently maintain an onsite office and marine inventory.

Assisting with coordination of other marine events including tournaments, regattas and group bookings

Maintaining the Marine Services office in a presentable fashion for guests and clients

Maintaining records of the marina including files, reservations and berthing passes

Drafting general correspondence for the marina and receiving and responding to emails and phone calls

Property Presentation & Cleanliness Duties:

Pro-actively carrying out daily tasks to ensure cleanliness. These tasks include completing daily sweeps of the property, picking up litter and debris and pressure washing

Assisting with special events during setup, operation and loadout

Assisting the Build Nova Scotia maintenance team with minor tasks

Notifying the maintenance team of potential issues

Servicing Build Nova Scotia's public restrooms as needed

Litter pick-up and emptying waste receptacles

Qualifications

Completion of High School or equivalent and returning to studies in fall 2026. Other education or experience related to marina operations and office skills are desired.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

Must be proficient with Apple products and their software as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat.

Must be able to produce professional documents for communication and distribution.

Previous experience working in a marine environment an asset;

Small Craft Operators card is an asset;

Radio Operators Certificate - Maritime (ROC-M) is an asset;

Experience operating small watercrafts is an asset;

Experience in landscaping, light carpentry, painting and general maintenance are an asset;

Experience handling cash, Visa and debit transactions an asset;

Valid Class 5 Driver's License is a significant asset.

Valid Standard First Aid and WHMIS Certificates are an asset;

Position will include extensive walking as well as physical labour both indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions;

A passion for the waterfront is essential.

Experience landscaping; using a push mower, line trimmer, sheers, shovel, rake

Work With Us

Working Conditions:

Day, evening, weekend and holiday work hours are required.

Work is conducted in all different weather conditions.

Work hours as determined by the Manager and can vary between the times of 8:00AM to 7:00PM. These positions will work up to 35 hours per week.

Additional Information:

These positions are targeted to Summer Students who return to studies in fall 2026.

This opportunity will start by May 1, 2026, with anticipated end date of late August 2026. Casual work may continue into the fall depending on seasonal/operational needs.

The hourly rate of pay varies depending on educational level, i.e., high school to masters.
