Build Nova Scotia is seeking summer student candidates for the position of Waterfront Ambassador.
Waterfront Ambassadors will possess a friendly, welcoming, and outgoing attitude. This position is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day support, coordination, and logistics of the events held on the Halifax waterfront, working to enhance property presentation and cleanliness, operating a waterfront information kiosk, and other duties as required. It includes activating the space with a variety of equipment for activities geared toward visitors, such as lawn games or beach volleyball. As front-line staff representing Build Nova Scotia, this position requires an individual with excellent customer service skills, an outgoing personality, and willingness to perform hands-on tasks to ensure events are supported to run successfully and that the waterfront's public spaces are active and engaging for visitors and locals. As a member of a small team, the position also requires a high degree of cooperation, coordination, communication and the ability to work independently. It also entails various tasks related to property cleanliness and maintenance, as well as support of marine operations and other functions of the waterfront.
Customer Service/Public Relations Duties:
- Assist with onsite event hosting/sponsorship activations as required.
- Capture photography and video content of waterfront events and activations for use on social media (basic Smartphone device camera) as directed by the Marketing & Communications team.
- Conduct satisfaction surveys for data collection throughout the season.
- Communicate effectively with visitors, responding to questions, proactively promoting events, attractions and activities.
- Assist in activating the space by running programming, games and activities for families.
- Engage appropriately with visitors to the waterfront in an enthusiastic, friendly, and informative way.
- Operate the Halifax Waterfront information booth to provide information to waterfront guests.
Property Presentation & Cleanliness Duties:
- Assisting with special events during setup, operation, and loadout, including equipment deployment and providing event organizers with access to required services and areas.
- Act as the primary on-site contact for waterfront event activations (evenings and weekends required).
- Report to the waterfront's maintenance team any potential maintenance or safety issues encountered.
- Litter pick-up and emptying waste receptacles.
- Be prepared to provide direct support and assistance to Build Nova Scotia Marina Attendants and all Property and Maintenance Operations as may be necessary to support the day-to-day operations of the property.
Completion of High School or equivalent and returning to studies in fall 2026.
Previous community engagement or customer service experience is desired.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Must be proficient with Apple products and their software as well as Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat. Must be able to produce professional documents for communication and distribution.
Valid driver's license an asset.
Valid Standard First Aid and WHMIS Certificates are an asset.
Position will include extensive mobility as well as physically demanding work both indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions.
A passion for the waterfront is essential.
This opportunity will start early May 2026 with an end date of late August 2026. Casual work shifts may continue into the fall depending on seasonal/operational needs.
The hourly rate of pay varies depending on completed educational level, i.e., high school to masters.

Working Conditions:
Day, evening and weekend shift work is required.
Work is generally conducted outdoors in all weather conditions.
Hours of work generally consists of a maximum of 35 hours per week.
