The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Controller in an owner?managed or entrepreneurial business who enjoys being close to the numbers and the decision?making? Are you looking to broaden your exposure beyond a single organization or industry, while continuing to apply your hands?on accounting expertise in a meaningful way?
We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our Accounting Services Group in a senior, client?facing role. This position is ideal for a Controller who thrives in dynamic environments, enjoys working directly with business owners, and is motivated by variety, problem?solving, and advisory work across multiple industries and business models.
You will act as a trusted financial partner to owner?managed businesses, supporting them with financial reporting, operational insights, and sound decision?making, while mentoring staff and contributing to the growth of our practice.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will leverage your Controller?level experience while gaining exposure to a diverse client portfolio:
Manage a portfolio of owner?managed and entrepreneurial clients across multiple industries
Oversee and review monthly and year?end financial reporting, working papers, and financial statements
Lead month?end and year?end close processes for multiple client environments
Support business owners with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and operational insights
Act as a key advisor to clients, helping them interpret financial results and make informed business decisions
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and firm quality control processes
Mentor, coach, and provide performance feedback to senior and intermediate accounting staff
Coordinate engagement planning, timelines, and resource allocation
Identify opportunities to improve client workflows, reporting processes, and internal efficiencies
Assist partners with client relationship management and business development initiatives as needed
What You Bring
You are a seasoned accounting professional who enjoys both technical work and client interaction:
Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Accounting considered an asset; equivalent experience welcomed
CPA designation considered an asset
6 - 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Controller or senior industry experience
Experience in an owner?managed, entrepreneurial, or closely held business environment
Strong technical knowledge of financial reporting and accounting standards
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and stakeholders
Experience reviewing financial statements and working papers
Comfort working with cloud?based accounting platforms (e.g., QuickBooks Online, CaseWare, Sage)
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain financial information to non?financial audiences
A collaborative, solutions?oriented mindset with a desire to add value beyond the numbers
