Starting Salary: $97,693
Salary Review: December 2026 the salary will be reviewed with an increase up to $124,370.
Position Summary:
The Director of Finance provides strategic and operational financial leadership for Grand View Manor, Orchard View Apartments, and the Grand View Manor Seniors Foundation in accordance with Nova Scotia legislation, Department of Seniors and Long-Term Care requirements, and not-for-profit accounting standards. The role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial systems, budgets, reporting, and internal controls, while supporting organizational sustainability and accountability. The Director of Finance leads and supports finance and administrative staff, works closely with the CEO and the senior leadership team, and serves as a key liaison with government departments, auditors, and the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in business, commerce, finance, or another relevant program
CPA designation (preferred)
minimum 5 years management and supervisory experience
Experience with accounting in a non-profit organization
Above-average computer literacy skills using Sage 300, Microsoft Office and Outlook 365 an asset

· Strong understanding of Nova Scotia long-term care legislation, funding models, and regulatory accountability requirements.

· Proven ability to lead, supervise, and support finance and administrative staff, including performance management and staff development.

· Demonstrates strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills to meet competing deadlines and adapt to changing operational and regulatory demands.
Functions and Responsibilities:
Supervision and Staff Management
· Responsible for supervising, managing, and evaluating the following personnel:
Ø Executive Assistant/Finance Clerk
Ø Receptionist
· Authority to select, promote, retain or remove finance department personnel in accordance with Grand View Manor's Human Resources and Progressive Discipline Policies
· Collaborate with the Director of People (DOP) to implement and be involved in corrective and progressive disciplinary action up to and including dismissal
· Oversee and verify time cards for all direct reports, promptly addressing attendance irregularities (e.g., late arrivals, missing punches) and maintaining ongoing dialogue with staff regarding identified concerns.
· Implement Attendance Support Program for direct reports in collaboration with the People Operations Team
· Collaborate with the People Operations Coordinator to ensure annual and probationary performance reviews are completed for all direct reports
· Collaborates with the Learning and Development Coordinator to identify training needs and promote staff development through the coordination and implementation of ongoing education, orientation, workshops, and competency evaluations.
· Addresses and responds to staff grievances at the appropriate level

Communication
· maintains good working relationships with staff within all departments
· liaison with residents, apartment tenants, families, visitors and general public
· liaison with Department of Seniors and Long Term Care and Department of Housing
· Develops and reviews policies and practices for the finance department in accordance
with best practice guidelines and regulatory requirements

Organizational Financial Management
· maintains a computerized financial and management information system
· develop financial policies and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for not-for-profit organizations
· implement accounting controls for assurance of the reliability of financial information and security of the assets of the organization
· supervise accounts payable to ensure timely and accurate payment of financial obligations
· supervise billing and accounts receivable
· manage general accounting activities to ensure proper posting of transactions
· supervise payroll activities to ensure timely and accurate payments to authorized employees as well as timely government reporting and remittances
· supervise the investment of surplus funds
· Acts as one of the signing authority for the organization
Organizational Finance Reporting
· preparation and review of monthly financial statements with CEO
· preparation and presentation of quarterly financial reports to Board of Directors
· preparation and review of annual financial reports for the Grand View Manor Seniors Foundation
· co-ordination of the annual external financial audit with the appointed auditor
Preparation of Organizational Budgets
· responsible for preparing and administering the operating and capital budgets for the organization including Grand View Manor, Orchard View apartments and the Grand View Manor Seniors Foundation
Employee Benefit Administration
· oversee administration of employee benefit and pension programs
· negotiate annual renewal of benefit program
Other Duties as required to Support Organizational Priorities
· Participate in Leadership On Call schedule
· Member of the Steering Committee and participates in board meetings
· Participate/engage in systems level thinking, strategic planning, and external stakeholder relationship building
· Accepts, when feasible, responsibility for certain activities as delegated by the administrator
· Attends Labour Management meetings with Union and represents employer during Bargaining
