This position will be 2 weeks in St. John's, NFLD and 2 weeks in Goose Bay Labrador.

** This will be a fly in/fly out position consisting of a rotational schedule (2 weeks in, two weeks out). During the out weeks, the successful candidate will complete one week of in office or at home work followed by one week off prior to re-positioning to Labrador.

The Integrated Air Operations Manager, Labrador is responsible to manage staff and systems to meet the performance requirements of the air and ground Ambulance program as well as the Coastal Labrador Air Service. The Manager will assist with the Company Corporate Strategic Goals, build staff capabilities, and implement changes to improve service levels. The overall general role of this position is to direct and provide oversight for the workforce in a positive manner. This position will primarily report to the Director Integrated Air Program with an indirect report to the Director Operations.

This leadership position will take direction from and act in conjunction with the Program Manager. In a capacity covering a broad range of duties, the mission will be to keep the overall operational status of the integrated ambulance program fully functional while meeting or exceeding customer/patient expectations. The incumbent positively communicates company philosophy and policy so that there is shared realization of the company's goals in the operational area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure that customer/patient service is a priority. Successfully manage a customer/patient issue resolution process.
  • Act as a liaison and build stakeholder relationships with indigenous groups serviced by the program
  • Has a solid understanding of the air and ground ambulance industry and various business functions such as emergency medical service operations, fleet/facility management, human resources, finance, inventory control, system status planning, quality improvement, training, and education.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Labrador Medevac as well as the Coastal Labrador Air Service
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Labrador ground ambulance service
  • Liaise with the Provincial Medical Communications Centre to ensure appropriate utilization of Paramedic units according to the SSP.
  • Have knowledge of and oversee multiple collective agreements
  • Exercise management over designated areas of authority and addresses employee and labour issues within a confidential capacity.
  • Oversee and participate in the recruitment and selection process for air medical staff.
  • Actively develop and coach staff - reinforce developmental initiatives by employees in collaboration with the human resources department and other development committees. Orientate new employees to the goals and objectives of the company.
  • Encourage semi-autonomous work groups and actively lead or participate on various committees.
  • Conduct effective group meetings (including staff and labor relations) and lead staff by example.
  • Improve employee performance through motivation.
  • Successfully mediate conflict between employees and between the organization and external factors. Develop and manage the operational area employee team while possessing an aptitude for working with and through staff and in helping them to achieve goals of the organization.

Professional Qualifications & Competencies:

  • Experience in the Healthcare field; and are a registered nurse currently registered or eligible to be registered with the Nurses Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, or a paramedic currently registered or eligible to be registered with the Paramedic Association of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Minimum of five years' experience working in the healthcare field.
  • Minimum of three years in a progressively responsible leadership position with experience in air ambulance leadership considered as an asset.
  • Proven experience in EMS management, information technology, finance, and human resources.
  • Experience as a Flight Nurse or Flight Paramedic would be an asset.
  • Solid managerial/supervisory experience and formal business training and/or university diploma or degree would be an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in business administration would be an asset.
  • Previous experience in project management or was part of a project that implemented significant system change.
  • Demonstrates effective delegation of tasks to entire team.
  • Exercises independent judgment and problem solves with discretion.
  • Demonstrates superior conflict resolution skills: balances assertiveness and sensitivity and successfully mediates conflict.
  • Effective written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Exercises a significant degree of discretion in the decision-making process.

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000 annually.

The Base Pay range may vary depending on the successful candidate or other relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience and education/training. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Medavie employees may participate in various performance-based incentive programs. Payments under these programs are discretionary and subject to both individual and organizational results.
