Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Assistant Unit Supervisor

What You Will Do
As an LPN - Assistant Unit Supervisor, you will provide safe, competent, ethical, and compassionate nursing care while offering leadership, supervision, and clinical guidance to neighborhood team members. You will work collaboratively with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams to support residents' physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.
Key responsibilities include:
Perform resident assessments, reassessments, and care plan updates in accordance with policy
Administer medications, treatments, wound care, vitals, glucometer testing, and documentation
Provide direct nursing care to medically stable and predictable residents within scope of practice
Supervise and support CCAs, Floor LPNs, FSWs, ESWs, and SSWs, including coaching and bedside teaching
Monitor resident status, report changes, and collaborate with RNs, physicians, pharmacy, and allied health professionals
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, care conferences, and quality initiatives
Ensure accurate documentation, medication safety, infection prevention, and compliance with standards and regulations
Act as a point of contact for resident and family concerns and escalate appropriately
Promote resident engagement, meaningful activities, and quality of life
Support a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace culture
This is a 24/7 role requiring availability for days, nights, weekends, holidays, and call-ins.
What You Will Need
Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the Province of Nova Scotia
Diploma in Practical Nursing
Completed Pharmacology through the LPN Core Program or an approved post-graduate course
Minimum one (1) year recent experience administering medications
Minimum two (2) years nursing experience demonstrating sound clinical judgment and leadership skills
Experience working with older adults, including those living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias
Previous supervisory or leadership experience (preferred)
Strong organizational, communication, and critical-thinking skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
CPR certification and willingness to complete Alzheimer's and Dementia Care training
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
