The Maintenance Tradesperson is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of several building systems, and equipment including grounds within the long-term care facility. This role involves performing and documenting repairs, conducting preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and audits and inspections on electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and structural components to maintain compliance with health, safety, and regulatory standards. They will enjoy interacting with the residents and are expected to participate in enriching lives every day. The Tradesperson Maintenance Worker reports to the Maintenance/Facilities Manager and is required to work in accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, Standards, Policies and Procedures of The Meadows.

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE:

Demonstrate sincere willingness and passion to engage and participate with those who live in our home and lead others who work in our home to enhance resident's social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs

The successful candidate will have above average problem-solving skills, professionalism, integrity, and be available for all shifts - days, evenings, occasional nights, weekends, and holidays. Education or life experience equivalent to a minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.

Diagnose issues across multiple systems and implement effective solutions.

Collaborate with external contractors when specialized repairs are required.

Trade Certification, preferably Electrical

Experience working with electrical, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and grounds maintenance.

Some knowledge of maintenance standards, codes, legislation for Nova Scotia Long Term Care facilities

Above average interpersonal and judgment skills; able to accept supervision but work independently

Well organized, self-disciplined, and resourceful with the ability to plan and set conflicting priorities

Strong communication skills; demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instruction.

Ability to hold in confidence all matters about residents, care team members, and the facility.

Must be able to perform duties that involve lifting (moving furniture and materials), bending, climb, stretching, and work in confined spaces with exposure to all types of weather conditions.

On-call availability for emergency repairs.

Experience using computer applications

Experience in building maintenance or related trade work

Reliable team member regularly attending assigned shifts.

Great team player, willingness to take on care duties of facility pets, plants etc as required.

Ability to prioritize and respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency repairs. An ability to diagnose problems and implement solutions.

A valid driver's license and willingness to use own vehicle to pick up local supplies, deliveries etc.

WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO HAVE:

Journeyman Trade certification, preferably Electrical, Carpentry, Plumbing, Technician and or HVAC courses.

Previous experience working in a health care environment.

Previous experience with appliance repair

Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and infection control practices.
