GEMTEC is a growing firm with offices throughout Atlantic Canada and in Ontario, and we are looking for a motivated and skilled Junior Geotechnical EIT to join our Team. We currently have an opening for a Junior Geotechnical EIT in our London, Ontario office.
The successful candidate will have the following:
Educational & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical.
- Eligible for professional registration (EIT or P.Eng.).
- Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience (preferably in consulting) would be considered an asset.
- Experience and interest in soil and bedrock classification, overburden and bedrock drilling methods, general construction activities, materials testing and inspection services.
- Familiarity with software packages specific to geotechnical engineering (GeoStudio, Rocscience slope stability modelling programs) and pavement design
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), strong organizational skills, and time management skills and the ability to prioritize several assignments at one time in order to deliver quality work on time and on budget.
- Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork, in a range of weather conditions.
Main Duties:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in the following:
- Provide field and technical support to a wide variety of geotechnical projects; including the preparation and supervision of field programs, data collection, data analysis, and technical report writing and proposal preparation.
- Design and conduct field investigations, including: drilling and logging, test pitting, soil and bedrock characterization, monitoring well installation, hydraulic response testing, soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water sampling, installation of groundwater instrumentation, etc.
- Assisting intermediate and senior staff prepare technical geotechnical reports including, geotechnical site characterization and design (foundations, slope stability, retaining structures, settlement analysis, etc.), and groundwater and surface water monitoring reports.
- Assisting with field materials engineering and construction services as needed, including field testing and inspection of aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and construction and earthworks supervision.
- Interpretation and application of provincial and federal acts and regulations.
- Adhering to all company policies.
- Other duties as required.
Position:
- Contract until December 2026
- 37.5 hours/week (varies with client workload)
- Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle
Pay Range: $26.67 - $30.77 CAD hourly
In alignment with Ontario's Employment Standards Act and pay?transparency requirements, GEMTEC includes the expected compensation range in publicly advertised job postings for roles based in Ontario. This range reflects what GEMTEC reasonably anticipates paying for this position. Final compensation will be based on the successful candidate's education, experience, skills, internal pay equity, specific Ontario location, or other factors unrelated to Ontario?protected grounds.
