Job Summary
As part of the ACT Team, this position provides direct home support and community access to clients with severe and persistent mental illness. This position provides a full range of services including assisting clients with life skills (cooking, shopping, money management, housekeeping, making and attending appointments). They will encourage personal care and assist with medication compliance. The homemaker will be responsible for observing for changes in health status and reporting same to the ACT Team. They will encourage and accompany clients in leisure and recreational activities or community events. They will also advocate on behalf of clients for resources as well as provide emotional support.

Occasionally lifts and moves objects less than 10 lbs.
Regularly drives to and from client's residence, and drive clients to various locations.
Regularly sit at a desk and use the computer.
Visual concentration is required for physical changes or abnormal behaviour in clients and auditory concentration is required for communication purposes. Other sensory demands include smell (to detect illegal substances, alcohol, or personal hygiene issues).
Working with clients with mental health issues can require higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness for the health and safety of others.
Often times, there are time pressures, deadlines, interruptions and lack of control over the pace of work.
Exact results and precision are required when documenting information on client's progress to ensure that an accurate record of daily activities and/or incidents is reflected.
Job Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Mental Health is required.
Experience working with clients/patients/residents with severe and persistent mental illness is required; this would include a demonstrated ability to support people with activities of daily living.
BLS Certification is required.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a personal vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
