The Opportunity
Are you ready to apply your knowledge in the real world? We are hiring a co-op for the Summer Term (May 2026–August 2026) within our Audit Services team. In this role, you will be working closely with the Audit Services team and other colleagues across the Emera group of companies. This is a wonderful opportunity to work alongside current and prospective CPAs (Chartered Professional Accountants), CIAs (Certified Internal Auditors), and CISAs (Certified Information System Auditors) in an internal audit environment. What you'll do: You will gain exposure to a broad range of internal audit activities. More specifically, in this role you will:

  • Support audit engagements and SOX compliance by helping plan, execute, and document internal audits, including walkthroughs, testing of controls, and evidence collection.
  • Analyze processes and controls to identify risks, inefficiencies, or gaps, and assist in developing clear, practical recommendations.
  • Assist with internal team initiatives and quarterly reporting responsibilities.
By the end of the work-term, the co-op student should have:
  • Gained exposure to multiple Emera operating companies and how each conducts its business.
  • Developed skills in risk assessment, data analysis, communication, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Built familiarity with both SOX compliance and risk based internal audits.
  • Assessed control design, performed operational effectiveness testing, and supported audit fieldwork.
  • Worked alongside CPAs, CIAs, and CISAs, gaining insight into the profession and potential qualifying hours toward a future CPA designation
Who you are: As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below:
  • 2+ years enrolled in a program of study focused on Commerce / Business Administration /Accounting.
  • Has an interest in learning more about and/or pursuing a career in internal audit and pursing an accounting or audit designation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
