Key elements of this role include:
This position will be responsible for the effective management of all aspects of Distribution Contractors within Energy Delivery's Regional Operations Team and will work to build and maintain those strong relationships. You will be responsible for completing the overall annual capital expenditure (ACE) plan in relation to the distribution system to continuously improve reliability for NS Power's customers. You will work closely with other technical and operating groups to ensure projects are successfully executed in line with expectations. You will be responsible to complete routine maintenance work that is assigned to the distribution contractors. You will measure productivity against goals, perform regular analysis of budgets, and maintain a regular cadence of direct engagement with stakeholders. This position will be a leader within the standby response team when unplanned events compromise the distribution system.
You will be responsible for your personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupation Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. This position will occasionally work in remote areas with no communication (no phone or radio service) due to the 'cross country' nature of the distribution lines. This position will occasionally work using Helicopters and UTVs and may experience exposure to heat/cold stress. This person must be committed to keeping themselves and their direct reports safe in these conditions. You will be accountable for Environmental Management System (EMS) compliance under your responsibility. You must demonstrate your commitment to the capabilities development process to help you team members advance in their own careers.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Ensuring all aspects of the Contractor Safety Management Program (CSMP) are being met by all contractors that are working under your direction. This person will frequently engage with contractors including formal safety observations of work execution in the field across the province.
- Day-to-day Leadership within the contract management and execution team, including advancing goals under the Management Operating System (MOS). The person will establish and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across all contractor work groups to manage effectiveness. This person will also be responsible for developing an effective team.
- Oversight of distribution outage planning to ensure capability to complete priority work. They will collaborate with the Nova Scotia Independent System Operator (NSISO) to meet maintenance objectives while maintaining GRID reliability.
- Leading a team in the execution of long and short-term work and resource plans to complete work across the province to meet company objectives using both internal and external resources.
- Overseeing and adjusting a Quality Assurance program for pre and post work execution to ensure the maintenance meets standard. They will establish and maintain feedback loops to ensure that findings from the field are incorporated into future work planning.
- Approving contractor change requests and resolving disputes to support the billing processes.
- Continuously looking for opportunities to make work execution or management more efficient and productive.
- Ensuring the safe and effective completion of emergency and reactive maintenance work on the distribution system, when required.
- Other duties as assigned.
These skills will make you successful:
To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:
- A Bachelor?s Degree in Engineering (or be eligible to obtain P.Eng. designation in Nova Scotia) with relevant work experience in Distribution and 5 - 7 years Electric Utility experience or Certification as a Powerline Technician / Industrial Electrician / Electrical Technician with relevant work experience in distribution and 10+ years Electric Utility Experience.
- Significant understanding of, or the ability to read and comprehend, the safety and reliability procedures required to work on Distribution Systems. These include but are not limited to NS Powers Standard Protection Code (SPC), Rubber Gloving Code of Practice, and North American Electric Reliability (NERC) requirements.
- The ideal candidate will have a background in project management and previous leadership experience as a supervisor or manager.
- Any experience in Transmission & Substation work would be considered an asset.
- An alternate combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong analytical/computer skills and an aptitude for detailed process analysis is also considered an asset.
- You must possess a valid driver?s license and be available to provide assistance/direction for afterhours emergency service restoration.
