JOB SUMMARY:
This position reports to the Service Foreman-Parks (summer) and the Manager of the Four Ice Centre or Supervisor of Parks (winter).

Comprehensive horticultural parks maintenance in summer and arena operations in the winter period.

EDUCATION:

• High School graduate or GED equivalency.
• Must have one of the following designations:
• Be a qualified Landscape Horticulturist as designated by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour from the Province of New Brunswick.
• Possess a Diploma in Horticulture from a recognized college or university and a minimum of 2000 hours of work experience specifically related to Landscape Horticulture
• A Certificate in Horticulture from a recognized college or university and a minimum of 5000 hours of work experience specifically related to Landscape Horticulture

EXPERIENCE:

• Must have two (2) years of work experience operating landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment including but not limited to: tractors with implements, utility vehicles, mowers.

LANGUAGE:

• English Essential

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to follow written instructions
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to fill out reports
• Able to work with mobile technology
• Ability to operate machinery such as Zambonis, floor scrubbers, ice edgers
• Must have a good working knowledge of current ANSI A300 Pruning Techniques for trees and shrubs and tree evaluation methods.
• Must have a good working knowledge of plant names and cultural requirements of zone five ornamentals including shade trees. Should have a good understanding of acceptable nursery stock quality as contained in the Canadian Nursery Landscape Associations "Standards for Nursery Stock".

OTHER:

• Must have and maintain a valid class 5 driver's license.

SUPERVISION:

• Supervision and development of small crews including but not limited to permanent, casual, student and volunteers.

CONDITIONS OF WORK:

• Work will be carried out in all types of weather conditions while constantly under the eye of the general public in municipal parks, city buildings and street site locations.
• This work requires considerable physical effort to work in extreme hot, extreme cold and all types of stormy weather conditions.
• Hours of work shall be according to article 23.01 (A) for Utility 6 Gardener and 23.01 (B) for Utility 2 Labourer 23.01 (B) variable shifts. The employee will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
