Responsibilities

This integral role is responsible for managing and coordinating LSM's risk management activities, focusing on identifying, evaluating, and mitigating operational, financial, compliance, and regulatory risks. They will also ensure that the organization remains compliant with relevant laws and regulations while supporting the development of robust risk management frameworks and strategies.

Framework Development

  • Supporting the ongoing development, implementation, and enhancement of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Compliance frameworks and policies.
  • Supporting the refresh of KRI's, EWI's, tolerances/thresholds, and escalation pathways.
  • Supporting the development and ongoing maintenance of risk reporting (themes, trends, and forward-looking insights) for ELT and the Board
  • Collaborating with business leads on risk identification and assessment across all business units, ensuring comprehensive risk profiles are established.
  • Implementing risk management tools and systems to improve risk identification, monitoring, and reporting capabilities.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of the ICAAP, Recovery Plan, ILAAP, Climate Risk disclosures and other regulatory deliverables.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensuring the organization complies with all relevant industry laws, regulations, and guidelines, including financial, operational, and data protection regulations, including but not limited to:
    • Assessing and identifying changes to regulatory and compliance landscape and assessing impact of new/changed regulation and compliance procedures and/or documents, determining required changes and level of change management to meet compliance and support and oversee the change(s).
    • Reviewing new and/or changed policies and procedures for the changes.
    • Developing the model implementation and change management plans to successfully implement new/changed processes.
    • Conducting reviews and evaluations of framework and processes to annually refresh.
    • Designing, and providing oversight and approval to the development and implementation of the working forms, model policies and procedures, and knowledge repository assets.
  • Monitoring changes in regulations and assessing their impact on business operations, advising senior management on necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.
  • Coordinating responses to regulatory audits, ensuring timely responses to regulatory inquiries, and implementing corrective actions when necessary.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Conducting regular risk assessments across business functions and identify emerging risks to be addressed proactively. Specific risk areas include treasury, capital, liquidity, crisis management/business continuity, securitization, credit, market, human resources, third-party, climate, and technology.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of current risk mitigation strategies and propose enhancements to reduce exposure.
  • Supporting the ongoing development, implementation, and enhancement of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Compliance frameworks.
  • Reporting & Communication
  • Preparing comprehensive reports on risk exposures, mitigation efforts, and regulatory compliance for presentation to executive teams and board of directors.
  • Supporting communication during internal and external audits, regulatory inquiries, and risk management matters.
  • Working with other departments to ensure effective communication and understanding of risk management processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Incident Management
  • Supporting investigations into significant risk events, including operational failures, regulatory breaches, and compliance violations.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of post-incident reports and action plans to prevent future occurrences.
  • Providing recommendations for enhancing risk controls based on incident analysis.

Department & Company Support

  • Providing input into the development of the corporate strategic plan related to ERM and Regulatory Compliance. With the Director, ERM and Regulatory Compliance, develops, recommends, and implements the department plan and budget. Monitors performance results and takes corrective action as appropriate.
  • Fostering strong relationships with senior management, business leaders, and external stakeholders (including regulators and auditors) to ensure alignment on risk management and compliance objectives.
  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to address risk-related concerns and promote a risk-aware culture across the organization.
  • Acting as back-up to the Director, ERM and Regulatory Compliance in their absence.
Qualifications

The Manager, ERM & Regulatory Compliance will have successfully completed a bachelor's degree in business, Finance, or Risk Management plus have 5-7 years' industry experience in risk management, regulatory compliance or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Advanced competency and knowledge in the development and management of ERM frameworks and policies
  • Advanced competency and knowledge in the development and operationalization of risk appetite frameworks, risk tolerances/limits, EWI's, and escalation and breach oversight
  • Advanced knowledge and competency in the design, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of KRI's and EWI's including their thresholds, trends, and remediation tracking.
  • Advanced knowledge and competency in the development of board and senior management risk reporting (such as dashboards, analysis, and commentaries, forward looking insights)
  • Competency and knowledge in the development of the ICAAP, Recovery Plan, ILAAP, Climate Risk disclosure deliverables
  • Familiarity with and supporting enterprise stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (including presentation skills)
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills, with ability to effectively work with diverse stakeholder groups and to interact with all levels of management and staff
  • Sound understanding of regulatory environments in the financial services industry and experience in handling compliance issues.
  • Proven experience in project management and cross-functional collaboration
  • In-depth knowledge of risk management frameworks, tools, and techniques (e.g., COSO, ISO 31000).
  • Familiarity with key regulations and standards (e.g., SOX, GDPR, HIPAA, Basel III).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in risk management software and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate risk scenarios.
  • Proven skills in conducting research, organizing and compiling data, and technical writing
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities
