Senior Medical Executive Director, Medical Affairs
Horizon Health Network is seeking an accomplished and visionary physician leader to serve as Senior Medical Director, Medical Affairs. This is a pivotal executive?level role that will shape the future of medical governance, clinical leadership, and physician engagement across one of Atlantic Canada's largest and most complex health systems.
Reporting directly to the Vice President, Medical, Academic and Research Affairs, the Senior Medical Executive Director will play a central role in advancing Horizon's strategic priorities, strengthening medical leadership capacity, and ensuring the highest standards of clinical quality and patient care. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence system?wide transformation, foster strong relationships with physicians and partners, and contribute to a culture of excellence grounded in collaboration, integrity, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- System-wide clinical leadership to advance quality, safety, and operational excellence.
- Champion integration across programs, zones, and clinical departments.
- Provide strategic leadership and expert advice to the VP Medical, Academic and Research Affairs.
- Identify opportunities for innovation, digital health adoption, and care model evolution.
- Drive alignment between medical staff priorities and organizational strategy.
- Support the development of clinical standards, pathways, and performance indicators.
- Support medical governance, including granting temporary privileges and managing documentation related to medical staff concerns.
- Foster productive, collaborative relationships among medical staff, medical management, leadership teams, and external partners.
- Support physician wellness, retention, and engagement strategies.
- Serve as an ex officio member of the Regional Medical Advisory Committee.
- Collaborate with Chiefs of Staff to support annual performance reviews and appointment recommendations for department heads.
- Participate in local, provincial, and regional committees related to Medical Affairs.
- Lead the development and review of Medical Affairs policies, procedures, and strategic action plans.
- Manage salaried physicians and oversee accountability frameworks for AFP?remunerated physicians.
- Lead processes related to disciplinary matters, legal files, and privilege renewals.
- Provide leadership in resource planning, including forecasting physician workforce needs to strengthen resource planning and recruitment.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and evidence-based practice.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the VP Medical, Academic and Research Affairs or the CEO.

Qualifications
- Medical Degree (MD) with active licensure in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick (CPSNB).
- Active medical privileges with Horizon Health Network.
- Demonstrated leadership or administrative experience in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical bylaws, regulatory frameworks, and health system operations.
- Experience in quality improvement, performance evaluation, and program development.
- Strong strategic thinking, collaboration, and communication skills in accordance with the mission and vision of the organization. They are responsible for assisting the organization achieve its' goals.
