The Community Standards Coordinator is part of the Property By-law Enforcement team within the Growth and Community Development Services Department. This position provides service to the general public, property owners and the community, to ensure compliance with a number of property-related municipal by-laws to directly enhance the aesthetics, enjoyment and pride of neighbourhoods in the City of Saint John.

This position works with property owners to achieve compliance with property-related municipal by-laws through education and awareness, investigation, enforcement, and by-law file conclusion. A high standard of customer service, professionalism and respect with every citizen/property owner interaction is expected.

This position works collaboratively in a team environment to deliver excellent customer service while meeting departmental service delivery targets.

Essential Qualifications:

Completion of a 1-year diploma from a recognized institution related to Law Enforcement, Criminology, Security and a minimum of 5 years of work experience in a similar work environment.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Systems and a Class 5 Driver's License are also required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in addition to excellent customer service, interpersonal, organizational and time management skills are required.

Must be able to communicate and deal with many and varied types of people in an effective manner under sometimes difficult conditions.

Experience with the interpretation and application of municipal by-laws and Provincial legislation; knowledge of the standard practices and procedures of the New Brunswick Court system.

Keen observation skills, strict attention to detail, ability to record and safeguard confidential information is required.

The successful applicant may be eligible to participate in a Flexible Time Options Program which includes the option of working a 4 or 5-day work week, subject to business requirements.
