Job Details:
The Strategic Infrastructure and Development Division is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented GIS student for the summer of 2026. The successful candidate will work closely with the GIS & Asset Management group while also supporting the organization. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that will provide hands-on experience and knowledge within a provincial government environment.
Supporting GIS related projects by conducting research, analysis & synthesizing information. dataset maintenance, and mapping outputs.
Conducting fieldwork relating to various Build Nova Scotia sites and assisting with the collection of assets for continued development of asset inventories.
Assist in coordination of property information, open data, and other government services and sources to use and implement in projects.
Assist in database, dataset, and other internal GIS infrastructure maintenance.
Assist in the creation & maintenance of web applications, dashboards, maps, and tools for integration into Build Nova Scotia's workflows.
Digitizing, scanning, organizing, and filing of hard copy maps, photos, plans, and historical documents.
Provide general support to the GIS Analyst
Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time accredited GIS (Geographic Information Systems), Geomatics, or related field program in the fall of 2026.
Working knowledge of GIS Software and Platforms (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, Survey 123)
Understanding of spatial data concepts - including data formats, projections, coordinate systems, etc.
Experience working with spatial and attribute data - data entry, editing, validating, etc.
Introductory experience with data analysis and scripting - Python,
Familiarity with Microsoft Suite -Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, MS Teams, Acrobat Pro is an asset.
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Possess high level of accuracy and attention to detail
Can work independently and as part of a team
Working Conditions:
Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day
Location - Halifax, NS
A valid driver's license is considered an asset as travel is required
