Definition of work:
The Public Health Registered Nurse I performs professional community health nursing work carrying out community health programs in homes, schools, clinics, and other community settings. The successful candidate provides nursing care, assists in the assessment of community health needs, undertakes case management, and conducts school health programs and the provincial immunization program. The Public Health Registered Nurse I is involved in health promotion activities, engages in community development, facilitates group sessions, conducts health education sessions in schools and communities, provides leadership in emergency preparedness and liaises with other community and professional personnel. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
? Undergraduate Degree in Nursing.
? Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador
? Current BLS certification for health care providers from the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
? Current Health Assessment certification or willingness to complete next available course.
? Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with team members and community.
? Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgment in a community-based environment with limited supervision.
? Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate community health nursing programs and healthy public policy in a population health framework.
? Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
? Demonstrated ability to apply basic computer skills.
? A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class V Driver?s license.
? Use of a private vehicle.

? A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
? A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Applicants who do not possess a Bachelor Degree in Nursing must be willing to complete an approved/recognized post diploma/certificate program in Public Health/Community Health at the first available opportunity as determined by the employer. The successful applicant must successfully complete the post diploma/certificate program within the program's designated timeframe and will start work in the position upon successful completion. Funding to complete the program will be provided by NLHS.
Preferred qualifications:
? Completion of the CNA Community Health Nurse Certification program.
