We also work with employers, workers, health care providers and community partners to provide occupational health and safety education to prevent workplace injuries in our province.

Director, Corporate Performance and Internal Review

The Director, Corporate Performance and Internal Review, is accountable for designing and directing WorkplaceNL's operating models and frameworks for strategic planning, quality assurance, policy development, internal review, research and evaluation.

You will play a key role in advising the Executive team on effective business strategies across a range of complex matters and support a culture of excellence in client service delivery. You will lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team that works collaboratively to design and execute initiatives essential to the delivery of our mandate. This requires the ability to understand and direct work across technical topics, while demonstrating a high level of emotional intelligence that fosters a strong, team-based environment. You will report to our Vice President, Business and Technology Services.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develops effective business strategies, plans and processes to address corporate priorities and achieve WorkplaceNL's mandate.
  • Provides leadership to foster a culture of continuous improvement in service delivery by directing the development of organization-wide performance measures, including key performance indicators and service standards.
  • Designs and directs an operating model that serves as a centre of excellence in evidence-based decision making through augmented analytics, research and evaluation capabilities.
  • Establishes a vision for quality assurance and directs the design and implementation of a structured quality assurance framework for WorkplaceNL's services.
  • Recommends policy direction to ensure alignment with industry-leading practices and the province's legislative frameworks for workers' compensation.
  • Oversees WorkplaceNL's Research Initiatives Program that provides external grants for innovative solutions to promote occupational health and safety.
  • Provides operational direction to ensure the effective and efficient management of the Internal Review process that ensures WorkplaceNL's decisions on claims and other matters are fair, reasonable and consistent.
  • Provides support to the Executive team on government relations, including WorkplaceNL's participation in government-initiated statutory reviews of the workers' compensation system.
  • Supports the Executive team in providing well researched options and background analysis on corporate priorities that enhance the delivery of our mandate for workers and employers.
  • Fosters informational links with other Canadian jurisdictions to ensure ongoing awareness of national developments and trends.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • A university degree in a social science, health care, business, public administration, commerce or a similar discipline, preferably at the master's level.
  • Five years of management experience with an emphasis on business strategy, program evaluation or policy development.
  • Experience building effective stakeholder relationships and navigating government relations.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in managing a diverse portfolio of initiatives.
  • Knowledge of and experience with implementing performance-driven initiatives, such as key performance indicators and service standards.
  • Ability to identify and influence organizational priorities through the provision of sound advice to senior management grounded in thorough analysis and good judgment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, engagement, team building and communication skills.
