The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an, Specialist, Geotechnical Engineering to join our CTO Dam´s studies and project manager Department.
This is a permanent position.
This position is available to candidates in Sudbury, Toronto, or Newfoundland.
As the Specialist, Geotechnical Engineering, you'll be responsible for delivering high?quality engineering services with a strong emphasis on process safety to support the operation, surveillance, and ongoing construction of tailings facilities. The role includes conducting surveillance and interpreting monitoring data, maintaining comprehensive records across design, construction, operations, and monitoring activities, and managing action tracking to ensure timely closure of required tasks. The engineer also supports effective governance processes by contributing to structural risk assessments, assisting with monthly reporting for the Engineer of Record, adhering to Management of Change procedures, and providing support during independent reviews and inspections.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Maintain accurate construction and performance records, including as-built designs and instrumentation data, while contributing to the specification and implementation of geotechnical instrumentation and preparation of technical design documentation.
- Interpret and validate geotechnical monitoring data by supporting field data collection, reviewing inspection findings, and assisting with instrumentation maintenance, calibration, and data analysis alongside the Engineer of Record.
- Support dam safety operations by planning and monitoring maintenance activities, producing daily field reports, ensuring adherence to HSE and company standards, and applying PDCA methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
- Prepare and deliver clear, timely reporting for site, corporate, and regulatory stakeholders, using sound technical data and logical communication.
- Execute follow-up actions from independent reviews, audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments, ensuring non?conformances are addressed and closed out effectively.
- Follow established Management of Change processes for updates to designs, OMS documentation, deposition plans, and other relevant operational plans.
- Collaborate closely with independent reviewers and technical teams, providing required data, participating in dam safety inspections and reviews, and fostering open communication to identify and mitigate geotechnical risks
About You
Education:
- Bachelor's degree with a specialization in geotechnical engineering or civil engineering or geological engineering.
- P.Eng
Experience:
- 8-10 years in Engineering or capital project management roles within large-scale industrial or mining projects. Exposure to decarbonization initiatives and sustainability projects is desirable.
Skills:
- Project management experience, including budgeting and costing
- Knowledge of stage?gate project delivery, collaborating with internal teams, external contractors, and consultants
- Experience with engineering software applications
- Asset experience includes:
- Investigation, analysis, design, and construction of dams, embankments, and similar geotechnical structures
- Geotechnical site characterization
- Risk assessments for tailings facilities
- Understanding of tailings storage facility governance, including familiarity with IBRAM, MAC, CDA, ANCOLD, ICOLD, and other guidance documents
