Medical Office Administrator in a Medical Clinic

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Start date: As Soon As Possible

Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM, Friday 8 AM to 4 PM

Salary: $23.00-25.00 per hour, depending on experience

JOB SUMMARY:

The successful applicant will play a vital role in the operation of a family medicine practice in Saint John, NB. They will be working closely with three physicians, another medical office administrator, and a medical office assistant, contributing to an efficiently run office and a collegial work environment. The applicant must have excellent people skills as there is very close interaction with patients.

Qualifications:

  • Language: English (required), French (an asset but not required)
  • High school diploma
  • Training requirements:
    • Successful completion of an Administrative Support Program which includes medical terminology and a medical transcription course (if program not completed recently, we request at least one year of previous experience)
    • OR Five (5) years of recent, relevant experience
  • Ability to attend work on a regular basis
  • Ability to perform all duties of the position
  • Good work record

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service in greeting and registering patients, answering phones, and scheduling appointments
  • Facilitate the preparation and submission of billings to Medicare for insured claims, and to other payers for non-insured claims (ie to patients, insurance companies)
  • Facilitate the referral process from the physician's office to a specialist's office
  • Use of office equipment including computers, printers, scanners, fax machine, and photocopiers
  • Use of an electronic medical record (EMR) (Note: this office uses Intrahealth (formerly Velante) but training is provided)
  • Perform other administrative duties such as filing, data entry, and relaying messages
  • Place patients in examination rooms; measure and record basic patient vital signs; handle and prepare medical specimens; prepare vaccines for injection by physician (training provided)
