Student Position: Commencing approximately May 1, 2026, and ending approximately August 31, 2026

Salary range: $20/hr

Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

· You will provide technical assistance for projects led by the Research Scientists. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.

· On a daily basis, you may be working on one or more research projects. This position will conduct lab work and may conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments.

· Innovative and committed to life-long learning, the Research Associate has a commitment to research excellence.

To be eligible for this summer student research assistant position:

· You must be a current part time or full time returning NSCC student in September 2026, or graduating this upcoming academic year (May 2026).

Qualifications

Minimum experience:

· Interest in developing climate resilient plants and tissue culture, as well as working in a lab environment.

· Experience in horticulture, plant ecology, crop science and soil science would be considered an asset but not needed.

· Experience with compiling diverse datasets from various sources

· Ability to conduct lab and field research studies with minimum supervision

Minimum skills and ability:

· Excellent interpersonal skills as well as effective oral and written communication skills

· Strong planning and organizational skills

· Ability to work as a team member in a deadline-oriented work environment

· Demonstrated analytical skills, problem solving techniques and the ability to look beyond symptoms to gather facts and information
