Job Posting: Civil Construction Estimator
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Civil Construction Estimator to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for civil infrastructure projects, including earthworks, underground utilities, concrete, roads, and pumping stations. This role plays a critical part in securing profitable work and supporting successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for civil construction projects.
- Perform comprehensive quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Analyze project scopes, contract terms, and construction methodologies to identify risks and opportunities.
- Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate pricing from subcontractors and material suppliers.
- Develop bid summaries, pricing breakdowns, clarifications, and exclusions for management review.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to optimize pricing strategies.
- Maintain and update historical cost data and unit pricing databases.
- Support post-award handover by clearly communicating estimate assumptions and risks to project teams.
- Assist with change order pricing and cost control as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5+ years of estimating experience in civil or heavy construction.
- Proven experience estimating projects involving earthworks, utilities, concrete, and municipal infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of contract documents, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with estimating and take-off software such as Bluebeam Revu, PlanSwift, HeavyBid, or Sage Estimating.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Familiarity with scheduling software (Microsoft Project or Primavera) is an asset.
Certifications (Assets)
- Gold Seal Certification (Estimator)
- Construction safety training (WHMIS, First Aid, etc.)
