Join a small, high-performing team in a professional work setting … with very few actual accountants around. Beyond the ability to work with a warm and dynamic staff, we offer a hybrid work environment, employer-matching defined contribution pension plan, contemporary medical and dental benefits package with a health spending account, fitness allowance, professional training budget, and free parking.

Key points:

  • Be an influencer and advisor to prospects making important career decisions
  • Be the expert on all things "CPA-path related," whether for university students, graduates already in the workforce, HR leads and heads of financial departments, international students, and other key audiences
  • Be the 'inside track' for prospects working through the CPA application process as they prepare to begin their professional studies
  • Be a public face in the community for CPA in your regions, whether at signature events, in workplaces, at career fairs, etc.
  • Be part of an innovative team with similar goals and among colleagues that share resources, support, and drive to succeed
  • Be the lead on special projects for the marketing department and organization, and identify opportunities and advocate for new projects that can boost our recruitment efforts

Background:

The Student Recruitment Advisor reports to the Director, Marketing and Recruitment, and is the front-line ambassador for the world-class Canadian CPA accounting programs. This specific role (one of three in the Atlantic region) is responsible for attracting students and workforce participants to the CPA accreditation path in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The successful candidate will quickly gain an in-depth knowledge of the CPA programs, features, and benefits, and draw on strong customer service and relationship-management skills. They will have a professional and accessible demeanour and be credible in assisting prospective CPAs with this key life decision. They will also influence senior stakeholders in the private and public sectors that oversee hiring decisions and training opportunities. CPA student recruitment advisors have impeccable market knowledge of the relevant employment trends, opportunities, and networks in their regions.

Major Responsibilities:

As a member of the CPA Atlantic School team, you will be the first point of contact on all CPA program enquiries in Newfoundland and Labrador for pre-admission eligibility and path requirements leading to the Chartered Professional Accountant designation. Providing excellent client service, you will manage all enquiries coming in directly whether in-person, by telephone, email and other communication mediums on an accurate and timely basis. Whether speaking to a university student or corporate controller, you will bring context, clarity, and inspiration for a decision that involves many complex considerations and a serious commitment.

Also, you will lead the planning, execution, and follow-up support for business-development initiatives across your markets including coordination and participation in information sessions held at various educational institutions, employers, career fairs, networking, sponsorship, and other events that lead to the attraction of prospects to the CPA profession. You will maintain the business-development database and CRM files including information entry, reporting and distribution of data as required.

Your department is an enthusiastic, five-person team spread over three provinces and includes two other student recruitment advisors with whom you will work closely. This role works with a great deal of independence. Note that the regional office for CPA Atlantic School is situated in Halifax, NS.

A further aspect of this particular role is in being the key lead and initiator for "special projects" within the department. This aspect of the job adds variety to the role and provides opportunities for further learning, skills development, and cross-departmental exposure. While difficult to define precisely, suffice to say that some special projects are annual or seasonal in their scope (e.g. logistics for an event such as "CPA Career Week in High Schools") others may be more ad hoc in responding to new opportunities in our environment.

A moderate amount of travel and after-hour events are expected, as work responsibilities require.

Key Competencies Required for Selection:

  • Minimum of a post-secondary business or commerce degree with a specialization in marketing, sales, human resources or equivalent combination of business training and relevant working experience
  • Ideally with marketing and sales or recruiting experience; preferably with relevant experience in a higher education or related business setting
  • Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills, particularly with external stakeholder groups
  • Strong planning capabilities with the ability to accurately prioritize workload and manage multiple projects
  • Exceptional written/oral communication and presentation skills; attention to detail is required
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Able to work independently, manage many small events and a related promotional calendar
