Civil Engineering Student (Summer/Fall CO-OP Term)

GEMTEC currently has an opening for a Civil Engineering student position in our Dartmouth office location for the summer and fall 2026 CO-OP Terms (May to August and September to December 2026). The successful candidates will work as civil technicians in both the office and field office supporting the geotechnical and materials engineering groups in Dartmouth. Candidates will have the opportunity to work on both small- and large-scale construction projects throughout Nova Scotia. This position may require occasional overtime, including evenings and weekends, to meet project deadlines and operational needs.

You're an ideal candidate if you have:

• Experience or interest in general construction activities, materials testing and inspection services.
• A desire to get hands-on experience in your field of study.
• The initiative to find the next task without being told.

A typical day on the job might look like:

• Performing laboratory testing of aggregates, soils, concrete and asphalt.
• Performing field testing and sampling of aggregates, soils, concrete, and asphalt.
• Adhering to all company policies.
• Performing other duties as required.

The good stuff you get:

• COOP Term position available (4 or 8 months)
• 37.5 hours per week plus overtime
• Experience working with specialists in the field
• Compensation for mileage driving to sites

Your background and what you bring:

• Experience with materials testing and inspection.
• Experience working in civil construction is considered an asset.

Other:

• Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle daily.
