Job Summary
Personal Care Attendants are valued members of the interprofessional team in the program. They work under the direction of registered nurse or licensed practical nurse, providing basic health care and support to patients and the area. They may also work under the direction of Allied Health Professionals, such as physiotherapy. Work in the physiotherapy area may include transporting/escorting patients, cleaning equipment and treatment spaces, ordering supplies, booking of client appointments, assisting with mobility and transfers, supervision of delegated patient/resident exercises and/or conduction of delegated mobility interventions.

Regularly lift/move objects/supplies up to 30 lbs. and frequent standing and walking.
Regularly requires a variety of body movement including bending, kneeling and stretching and pushing and pulling objects using light to medium force.
Data input, visual monitoring and higher than normal levels of attentiveness and attention to the health and safety of others is required in the provision of all forms of care.
Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an approved/recognized Personal Care Attendant Program or other equivalency as determined by the employer. Equivalency may include completion of an adequate portion of the BN or Practical Nurse program to enable the applicant to meet a majority of the duties, responsibilities and psychomotor competencies of the PCA.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills, ability to maintain effective working relationships with residents, staff, and families, demonstrated initiative, ability to work independently and prioritize work duties.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
