Applications are invited for the position of "Powerline Technician" until 3:00pm on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
The Powerline Technician (PLT) is a union position and contributes to the construction, maintenance, and operation of all aspects of Saint John Energy's electrical distribution system.
The role of the PLT and the involvement of IBEW local #1524 play a major factor in Saint John Energy enjoying some of the highest levels of customer satisfaction and system reliability in Canada.
The duties of this position include:
- Participates in the construction, maintenance and operation of Saint John Energy's overhead and underground systems in order to meet customer needs and improve system reliability
- Promotes training and safety in order to ensure all safety regulations and appropriate work methods, Standard Operation procedures and Standard Construction Standards are adhered to
- Actively engages in equipment, work and materials planning in order to complete jobs efficiently and effectively
- Maintains all necessary vehicle and hydraulic maintenance log books and ensure that all routine vehicle maintenance is carried out
- Responds to and carries out emergency maintenance in extreme weather conditions
The employment requirements for this position are:
- Successful completion or enrolment in a recognized Power Line Technician program or equivalent experience in the trade
- Must have good verbal communication skills
- Variable duties in an outdoor work environment, always requiring a high degree of accuracy and attention to details and safety
- Ability to positively interact with union, non-union, and Management
- Resourceful, with strong troubleshooting skills
- Participates in the on-call rotation
- Membership in IBEW local #1524 is a condition of employment
- Possesses or obtain a class 1E driver's licence
- Must reside within 30 minutes of the Saint John city center under normal driving conditions within the first 6 months of employment
