The Policy and Climate Change Division has the responsibility to undertake research, policy and legislative development, consultation and relationship building, public engagement and education, as well as strategic project management, in support of government priorities and departmental objectives. Within the Division, the Climate Change Secretariat leads initiatives promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the adaptation to impacts of climate change. It also focuses on initiatives related to education, awareness, and capacity-building
The Department of Environment and Local Government provides integrated stewardship through planning and management of land use, and waste management issues. It ensures effective enforcement of, and compliance with, environmental legislation and regulations and provides effective consultation and liaison with local governments, regional service commissions and Rural Districts on governance related issues.
What you will do?
As a member of the Climate Change Secretariat and reporting to the Adaptation Section Director, you will, among other things be responsible for:
- Acting as the subject matter expert, leading the response to the Provincial Climate Change Risk Assessment (CCRA) in support of the commitment outlined in Action 23 of New Brunswick's Climate Change Action Plan.
- Coordinating post-release promotion of the Risk Assessment, including collaboration with CLIMAtlantic, delivery of public engagement sessions and webinars, and information sessions with departments and partners.
- Monitoring and developing indicators to track progress related to the CCRA over time.
- Serve as the knowledge keeper for the Climate Change Risk Assessment methodology and supporting its down-scaling and integration into provincial adaptation initiatives, including integration of methodology into Branch guidance documents to ensure Local Government Adaptation Plans are using a similar framework.
- Co-leading Action 24 of the Climate Change Action Plan, supporting the development of climate change adaptation plans for priority government departments including:
- Ensure departmental participation and cultivate close working relationships with key departmental staff through meaningful engagement and partnerships.
- Ensure the methodology is consistent across departmental adaptation plans, while considering the unique needs of each department.
- Lead development of recommendations for the departmental adaptation plans and integration of key opportunities in the next Action Plan.
- Provide support to French-speaking local governments as they complete their climate change adaptation plans in support of Action 26 of the Climate Change Action Plan.
- As necessary, performing tasks that support the adaptation team, including but not limited to, reviewing funding requests, creating tailored presentations for various sectors, trackand report on project progress, and prepare materials for senior leadership.
- Other duties as required.

Essential qualifications
The successful candidate must have a bachelor's degree in a field related to environmental science, engineering, business, policy administration and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience, including a combination of the following:
- Project management
- Stakeholder engagement; and
- Developing partnerships with government departments, agencies, and stakeholders.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate:
- Experience with climate change adaptation, adaptation planning, risk assessments and climate projections.

Wage
Pay Band 5: $2,574 to $3,595 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week
Work environment
- Office location: 20 McGloin (Marysville Place), Fredericton.
- Office layout: cubicles
- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30 (office schedule)
